I'm on the waitlist for a Prius II model at DarCars (Silver Spring, MD): My dealer sent me the pricing details since my car is coming in on the Pyxis Leader: $22,000 base price (Prius II) $750 Delivery, Processing & Handling Fee 6% MD Sales tax $100 State Processing Fee $240 State Tags ~ Total $24,455 no port addons, but I can buy floormats later if I want.
I will pick up my car on Monday. I have a "Invoice plus $500" agreement/deposit on a Blizzard Prius II (bare, except for a color upcharge). The invoice includes, among other items, Base Invoice: $20240 Special Color: 176 Destination Charge: 750 Dealer Holdback: 440 TDA: 506 Whsl. Financial Reserve: 220 Does anyone know what those last two items are? As well, I have agreed to the $399 Extra Dealer Profit. Thanks!
We worked with the internet sales guys on one lot and a regular salesman on another and we were quoted MSRP plus destination, nothing more. I did see a car in the showroom with over $3000 worth of extras, above MSRP, I think it was paint protection, rust protection and other stuff. I told the guy the car may have those extras but I'd never pay it. He then said he'd give me the extras for free. I bought my car from someone else. We'd paid MSRP + destination.
We tried going through the Costco Auto program for a 2010 Prius III. The Costco site calculator gives you an estimated price well below MSRP although it does include $750 destination fee. The site directs you to a local dealer (for our zip code it was Dublin) and gives you the specific sales rep name to contact. Unfortunately, when we showed up to the dealer and spoke to the rep, he informed us the 2010 Prius is not included in their Costco program. This was a bit odd, since they knew we were driving their for the Prius as part of the Costco program. Their offer was not horrible. MSRP + $750 destination fee and we received free floor mats (a $200 value!!). Still it was no where near the estimated reduced price. I notified the Costco Auto 1-800 rep but I doubt anything will come of it. Bottom Line: be careful if you use the Costco Auto, just because it is on the site it doesn't mean the dealer will honor it. Still looking forward to the new car!!
This 'Costco site calculator' must be zip code dependent. The program has no such calculator in my area, and we must go to the dealer to learn the price. At the time of my order, the 2010 Prius was not on Costco's menu of available cars in my area. It has since been added. Others have pointed out that the Costco car price is set by the dealer, not by Costco.
I went to World Toyota on Peachtree Industrial in Chamblee/Atlanta to see the 2010 last Friday. I was very impressed - with the car - and the sales lady Maya. I told them I would not pay dealer markup - but am interested in buying within the next 3 months. They gave me an offer of 34000 +fees with an 8-12 week wait for a 2010 Prius IV.. If I want it sooner - I would have to pay the 'market adjustement' fee of 3000. I will buy a 2010 - but I am not desperate. I think as we get closer to the end of the year - dealers will have even less incentive to 'deal' with the govt 4500 trade-in program and sales tax rebate.
Three data points for the Minnesota / Iowa area: 1) I had $500 down with Maplewood Toyota in Maplewood, MN since August last year and the agreement stated MSRP. The salesperson was very clear that there would not be any discounts on 2010 Prius for a long time but no extra fees, either. 2) When Maplewood was indicating that they weren't seeing any Blizzard Pearl IV's with solar in their allocations, I call around to several dealers across MN and IA. All were at MRSP except Cedar Rapids Toyota in Cedar Rapids IA. I was told that it would be $500 to go on their waiting list, non-refundable and over-and-above MRSP. Basically, a $500 dealer fee just to go on the list! I said no. 3) The Ames IA dealership, Wilson Toyota, matched my request against one of their unspoken-for cars and I now have my order in with them. Straight MRSP with the same numbers as the Toyota website. The Wilson salesperson stated the same thing as the Maplewood salesperson; no hope of negotiating below MRSP on my car given the demand. Bottom-line, in MN & IA, MRSP is normal EXCEPT at Cedar Rapids Toyota. They're looking to grab an extra $500 so be prepared to play hardball.
I assume the $34,000 has a market adjustment fee in it already? I don't think you can option a IV that high just using the MSRP numbers. So would that car be $37,000 if you wanted it now?
You may want to talk with the other Atlanta area dealers. I've been getting good resposiveness from Conyers, Mcdonough, and Southlake. Your milage may vary greatly when talking to other dealers.
For our zip code, the site ...costcoauto... asks for a zip code which brings up a page where you choose the year, make, model. This brings up a more detailed option sheet. Once you select the model & options, approximate invoice and MSRP prices are listed. Actual prices are given at the dealer on a special Costco price list. In our experience, we never saw the cost price sheet since we were informed the 2010 Prius was not included in the program. Good luck.
