To the Prius engineers- how much forum feedback have you used for the 2010?

Gatorz, more are not on PC than are, however PC is one of several fantastic agregates of opinions and information amongst Toyota owners. I would ventue to assert that many of the more passionate and knowledgeable owners participate here or in a similar venue.

For example, out of the ~50 of us who were in Detroit, a majority of them were PC members. Some of us even dated back to the Yahoo! groups which were a precursor to PriusChat and other online forums.

With that being said, it'd be safe to state that PC would be on the list of places for Toyota to gleen feedback and owner opinion - passively or otherwise.

I don't disagree. But to accept full credit for the changes smacks of arrogance. There are some pretty smart people working at Toyota and most of the things mentioned in this thread would not require a rocket surgeon to discover. Uncomfortable seats are...well...uncomfortable.

Agreed it would be arrogant to think that all changes came exclusively from these forums. However it has been said that a good portion of our feedback was at least considered for this new model. Must find a balance somewhere of where that credit is due.

I hope they listen when I ask, why did they lower the Navigation screen resolution? In 2006 Toyota improved the Navigation screen resolution but now in 2010 they reduced it. They made such great improvements in other areas and then take a step backwards with this. Toyota what are you thinking?

yeah, like only offering 3-door SKS on Prius IV+ and instead making heated side mirrors a standard feature

They certainly didn't check with me when they designed the interior. How many ugly sticks does Toyota have?

It's really tough to be civil and not use profanity about the ugliness of the new interior and the bad things they did.

How many of you actually think the Touch Tracer is better than just putting lights on the steering wheel? Not me.

How many of you actually think making a much smaller display for showing what gas mileage you are getting now and for the last 30 minutes? BAD BAD BAD.

Apparently it doesn't automatically reset the trip monitor back to zero when you fill up the gas tank. I LOVED that feature and it is gone.

Sure there are lots of things that are better about the 2010 Prius. I will be skipping it though and future ones until they redesign the hideous interior. I think several people at Toyota will have to be fired first. Including whoever is in charge of ugliness and bad ideas. Did they get this person from General Motors?

The buttons for Touch Tracer are also backlit so what's the big deal? Touch Tracer can also be turned off.

The Consumption Screen hasn't auto-reset since 2006 so it's not a 2010 fault. How hard is it to press the button anyway? I never let it auto-reset. I always reset it myself.

any product development team will gather data from as many sources as feasibly possible in order to provide a product that fits the needs of as many people as possible. PC being public and free means they only had to assign someone to read the posts and provide feedback. We are the largest source of customer feedback on the Prius in the world and it wouldn't surprise me in the least to find out we also outdo Toyota's own customer service feedback channels since many questions that would have gone to them came here first.

now how much we changed the final product is probably something even the design team probably would have difficulty quantifying. i'm sure there were many things brought up here that they investigated and discounted because of cost, technology or manufacturability ( is that a word??)

I love the new Prius and the new interior. I think it's a vast improvement.

Hmmm, I guess I have to tell my 2007 Prius (Tour version) that I bought in December '06 that it isn't supposed to be resetting on its own.

To clarify, it isn't resetting everything, just the mileage since I last filled up. So maybe we are talking/thinking about two separate things.

Hmm... ok so my '05, the avg FE and the km shown on the Consumption Screen resets on their own.

As far as I know, the 2006+ models didn't. Now it could be a difference between those models with and without a backup camera. In Canada, 2006+ base models had the old 04-05 MFDs while those models with a backup camera had the higher res MFDs.

I thought in Canada no Prii MFD consumption averages reset on their own. My 2004 never has - which I am very glad - I want to do it.

Could've sworn mine did. I remember letting it reset itself for the first few times until I realise it loses the first few hundred metres so it's calculation is slightly off from the trip odo. That's why since then I've resetted both at the same time manually.

actually, the MFD on 2004 and 2005 does reset as long as you add 3 or more gallons when filling up. i used to let mine reset on its own, but the problem was it took about a minute for it to reset which caused my trip A (which i manually reset on fillups) and the MFD to be a few 10th of a mile off.
