How does that compare to the Gen 2? Do you think it's a fair price?

They are the current prices for our (current) gen 2 models.
The prices that Pat quoted are obviously in Australian $...please do your own Country's currency conversion for comparisons.
We are still waiting for confirmed pricing on our Gen 3 which is about 3 weeks away from release here.

We will also have an option pack consisting of Nav and IPA (including reversing camera) on the Base model here.

Thanks Sleeka, I thought I had responded to that but I got distracted. Thanks for the news about options, Toyota Australia have dropped me from the loop for some reason which is pretty annoying. I was promised an invite to a priority test drive most likely on the eastern seaboard but I have heard nothing. Doesn't matter, I only wanted to drive it to publish my impressions as I don't think the time is right for me to buy right now.

No mate, we have the steering wheel on the RIGHT side!!!
So if you don't have the steering wheel on the RIGHT side you must have the steering wheel on the WRONG side.

    From carpoint.com.au

"As before, there are two Prius models. The base model has risen from $37,400 to $39,990 plus dealer charges and on-road costs and the i-Tech has risen from $46,990 to $53,500.
But both models have more equipment than before. Standard across the range are seven airbags, stability control, heads-up display, smart key, touch tracer and cruise control."

    $53,500 for the Itech !!!!
Near 60k on road ? Will that attract the luxury car tax ?
Last time I checked our Aussie dollar wasnt that bad

If the supplied price of the vehicle hit $60,000 it would attract a luxury car tax of $863.10 so adding almost $1000 to the final price.

Why has the base model price fallen in the USA and increased in Australia?

I have a feeling our base model maybe have keyless start/entry and a few other gadgets. So maybe a verison 2 us model ?
Thinking about the pricing, I would like to think that carpoint.com have added +ORC onto the price supplied by the dealers.
Under new pricing guidelines by the ACCC car dealers have to offer the drive away price rather than "price" + ORC
    I can only hope...

That means our base model costs $31000-$32000USD and the I-tech's at $42000-$43000USD . In other words, our base model costs as much as the US Prius V model with the Advanced Technology Package. Does anyone not think that ours is overpriced?

Depends on the rest of your range. Our base Prius is roughly 2x a base Corolla 5-spd manual.

We got more stuff (HUD, smart key, fog lamps all round) but T3 and T Spirit prices stay the same. The only downgrades are that the T3 loses leather trim on the steering wheel and 15", rather than 16", wheels.

Base Auris (Corolla hatchback, we don't get a Corolla saloon) is £13,120 but that's a three-door with manual air-con, black (rather than body-coloured) mirror housings and a 1.33 litre petrol engine coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox. Base Prius (T3) is £18,390, so we're now at Auris = 71.3% of Prius.

The high price of Prius compared to the USA was explained to me that Australian entry level Prius is not a base model. The AU entry level Prius has: -
    Fog lights
    3 door SKS
    Head Up Display
    Speed sensitive power steering
    Power lumbar suport adjustment
    Blue Tooth
    8 speaker audio
    2 channel amp
and all the other bits on a level II prius in the USA

Nav, reverse cam, & IPA are available on the entry level Prius for the first time at additional cost. About $4000AU!

I-Tech includes solar moon roof, remote air, nav, etc. leather interior, adaptive cruise, pre-crash and spre goes out the window, replaced with a compressor and bottle of gunk to reduce unladen mass. 17 inch wheels are not offered.

Looks like Toyota AUS is worried about weight if it's not offering the 17" alloys and removing the spare tyre. Do you have a tax on weight or CO2 emissions or maybe a different weight range for your official km/L ratings?

The problem acording to the Toyota people is the difference between the unladen mass and the gross vehicle mass(GVM). They said the vehicle must be able to carry 5 average weight adults and a fixed amount of luggage, with a full tank of fuel without exceeding the design GVM. With the added weight of the solar panels etc the vehicle would be too heavy if fitted with a spare and 17 inch wheels. I suspect the same formula applies in the USA. Another way would have been to make the back seat so it can only hold 4 people.

I can't buy into it. Toyota should show some numbers, c'mon Prius Team. The solar/moonroof doesn't weigh that much.

So your entry level Prius looks to be equivalent to the US version IV, without the leather, but plus fog lights...not bad!!

    :D
