What I don't like about 2010 Gen III interior

Didn't like the center console. Didn't like the where the energy/consumption display was located. It seemed the speedometer number was further to the right than the 2009. I like the 2009 better

 

I think such a design might make someone accidentally hit the Power Button by mistake and get a surge of unexpected speed. Until somthing better comes along, perhaps drivers can set the Power button a little bit earlier than needed and adjust the mode again when there are less distractions?

 

It's not a turbo boost button like on a Nightrider episode or a blower switch from Mad Max. lol

Agreed, the changes in power mode are so slight, they are almost unnoticable. No danger at all.

Completely off topic here but I couldn't believe it when I saw this picture. I was there when it was shot! My uncle's tow company was down the street from this and I used to work for him and we did a lot of studio towing, including towing all of the Knight Rider cars between the studios, sets, body shop, paint shop, frame shop, etc..

you can go from economy to power mode simply by pushing on the accelerator. after a certain position, like more than 65% travel or so, it will automatically switch to power mode anyway

 

Very useful information on the HSI (hybrid system indication) screen. It can be used to "play all the games" to maximize mileage without the addition of extra gauges.

 

Pressing the accelerator in Eco will not put it in a full power mode. It is a "lite" power mode. There is a lot more action in all the indications when the power button is pressed.

My laptop with the Car Code OBD II program crashed. When I get back from my trip next week, I will put it on my other laptop and record system data in each mode for comparison. Looking at the Scangauge, the numbers look different.

I have issues with the interior as well. Don't care for the silver "blades" on the steering wheel and really don't like the blue funky shift lever. but my main question is this: when driving can you turn off most or all of the stupid video game like info displays? We'll be buying a 2010 Prius later this year and it will primarily be for my wife, but when I drive it I need to not be distracted by info displays that have nothing to do with safe driving.

 

My car is coming in about a week, so I do not have the hands on time with the 2010, but I have been in 3 so far and I felt the interior was a little "plasticy", but overall felt much more modern than the older gen 2 and 3. I love how the interior now feels like everything flows together, rather than having a big square box sitting in the middle of the consul (gen 2). I would love to have a little more improved leather option and a stainless steel (or brushed steel) option. My wish list would include air-conditioned seats... I have them on my current Infiniti M45 and it is the best option in a car ever...in South Florida it is a wonderful add on...they will be missed.

I can't wait to get my car...

I can't test this out right now, so I'll ask: does this turn off ALL display on the right side, including the odometers? If so, perhaps getting in the habit of pressing DISP to get the 5-minute mileage graphs might work better: less updating but still get some info that might be useful.

Personally, I'd love it if Toyota would create another display that would have all three odometers, MPG to empty, and battery charge, all on one screen, plus indicators for: engine spinning, engine running, MG1 generating, MG2 running, physical braking, and battery charging/discharging.

 

You can turn off the odometers, but you have to use the trip button. Just keep pressing the trip button, and one of the selections is blank.

 

you can also use the dimmer control on the left of the steering wheel if you want. not recommended if you dont have a lot of experience with the car as you will not see the speedometer either
