I bought a 2009 Prius on Feb 14. I wish the dealership (finance person) told me that I have 3 yrs to purchase an extended warranty. Since coming to this forum I have canceled the one I got from them and will be getting a more reasonably priced one. Thanks for this site...Mike

The bladder/gas tank is really annoying. I wish the dealer would have explained it. The range I expected before I purchased my Prius is one of my (very few) major dissapointments.

My dealer basically showed me how to turn on Preston, and showed me where the spare tire is. I learned everything else through this site...which I LOVE!

By the way...he DID walk behind the car and wave to the backup cam when I was in reverse, soooooo there's that...

It would have been nice to know about the fact that you only get two "key" transponders...before the deal was closed. They are many $$$ and I'm sure I could have negotiated a better deal in the context of the purchase haggling.

Have a 2006 and going to trade in for a 2009.
I wish I'd had known that replacing/updating the Nav DVD would cost me 250 bucks!!!! The dealer told me to just call them and they'd send it to me. Never mentioned the cost.
I recently also moved to a newer area with a lot of new streets so an update would be helpful but I never got it. Everyone can get NAV on their phone, so why bother?

I wish the dealer told me that when I traded in my 2005 Prius (with HOVR stickers) that I would not be able to replace them on my 2007 Prius. Instead, they assured me that there was a "short" waiting list and that I would be able to get new stickers within a short period of time....btw, that was Torrance Toyota

I think someone else posted this--but it wasn't clear that being satellite radio capable didn't mean all you had to do was set up your subscription. This was disappointing. The salesman had to "check" to see if they could do the install.

My dealer let me sit down by myself and read the car manual while they were getting the car all prepped up to go. When the car was done we went through the basics with me. He did a good job

I bought my Prius from an original owner and not from a dealer. I was impressed with the nice crash-course that I was given by the seller. He took me for a long ride where he drove for a while and explained a lot of the little details. Then he let me drive and I got to ask him questions as we toured our city and drove on various streets and highways. I read the manual and got a lot of great information. This site has also helped me out quite a bit. I am really loving this car.

Spoke with the dealer today about two things:
    1. the extended warranty they charged us $2490 for..he says only licensed Toyota dealers can sell them and no one will sell them for much if any less than we paid for ours....
    2. the lojack.....salesman told us 15% discount on insurance, insurance company says no discount...and told us we could get an text message to our phone if the car moved (we work for the airlines)... pay an extra $150 and it's yours!
What would you do about the lojack?

I sent in a request to cancel the extended warranty and will buy the one from warrantyshack.com sent them an email for a quote today.

Ditch the Lojack. Not all cities even have a lojack locator in their squad cars.

Get the warranty from Troy. Did you finance the vehicle? If so, you are screwed. The dealer has to pay back the lender, not you. Your payment will remain the same, but your term will be shorter. Just an FYI.

    I'm a newbie...so I assume Troy is warrantyshack.com?

They wouldn't take the lojack back...$695 pissed into the wind.

    Did finance it.....

My dealer told me that only authorized dealers can sell Toyota warranties....

can anyone comment on whether purchasing the extended warranty is worth purchasing? I am buying a used 2006 and have the opportunity to transfer the extended warranty to me.

I'm definitely a newbie Prius owner. My 2010 V is just three weeks old and this is my first Prius.

Be sure the salesperson shows you how to enter your home address into the Navigation system. That way you can always "Go Home" when you press the Destination button.

Also have them program the Telephone Bluetooth connection with your personal cellphone. I never would have figured out the two-way handshake required to make the connection. BTW - I have a first generation Motorola Razor and the salesperson had a little trouble remembering where the Bluetooth settings were located. She said using the Bluetooth connection draws more power from the phone so I got a car charger to use for the phone.

The Smart Key System is really cool. But if you leave a key in the car (e.g. in my wife's purse) and try to lock the doors, the SKS prevents you locking the doors with the lock button on the door. I have to use the use the lock button SKS fob (from outside the car) to lock the doors. Then the only way I can unlock the doors is the use the unlock button on the fob.

The salesperson warned me about the perils of running out of gas and the uncertainty of the gas gauge when you get down to one or two pips. I don't plan on letting the gauge go below 1/4 of a "bladder" (I guess I can't call it a tank any more...).

The Intelligent Parking Assist is way cool. On the delivery test drive the salesperson showed me how to use it. But I was so nervous I could hardly remember anything about it. No amount of reading in the Owner's Manual will replace good old fashioned practice in your neighborhood. It took me a while to trust the program. Just remember to take it slooowly.

The Dynamic Radar Cruise Control works better on the open highway, not the crowded freeways of Los Angeles. I can't wait to take hit the open road.

One final note, I wanted to get the car washed at my local car wash. I couldn't figure out how take the antenna off so I went to a touchless car wash. I contacted Toyota Customer Service via the website. All I have to do is unscrew the antenna from the base. Now I can go to any car wash I want and even use a car cover.

BTW - the 2010 V with the Advanced Technology package can be a little intimidating. My wife loves to ride in it but still hasn't wanted to drive it yet.

How does one start the car if the smart key battery goes dead and you are away from home? How does the attached mechanical key work to start the 2010 prius?

I belive if you hold the smart key up to the start button on the gen III it will start. But you could remove the battery from the fob and try it. :D

Great news! Did you find this hint in one of your manuals or from your dealer?

I believe that the bladder system was eliminated in the 2010. As a new 2010 owner, I surely hope so, based on the horror stories I've read about refill problems and the "guess gauge" phenomenon.
