New Prius 2010 gets no respect on roads

Thought came to mind: is this being instigated by a site with a URL like FU-Prius.com ? (like FUh2.com )

 

haha get used to it. it happens to all prius models. i guess it's an ego thing. "hey look at me i'm faster and more powerful than you're prius so eat my dust!" sigh! i guess it's for the times we drive passed them at the gas station.

I'm sure we Prius people don't get near as much hate as Hummer drivers do. When I go to work I like parking beside my buddy's H3. He hates it and keeps saying how he could drive over my car with his. Not with that Trailblazer platform he won't, it's such a poser-mobile!

 

I think it can happen to anyone driving any type of car when you're following the rules of the road. I have not gotten my Prius yet, but have been on both ends. I don't think anyone should take it personally. Maybe some is in a rush to use the bathroom

 

Tell your buddy to sell the H3 and use the proceeds to purchase Viagra and a better car. He'll get a bigger ego boost and he'll save money in the process....

 

The incidences are probably the inverse of how long you've had your Prius. The newer the Prius the more you notice everyone is out to get you. The longer you've had it, you realize you aren't the center of the world and there are just idiot drivers out there.

 

I don't want to rub it in, I think he feels bad enough already. I'm really surprised by how all the heavy-duty mechanics I work with, who mostly own big diesel trucks, actually like my car. I was expecting them to make fun of me for buying it.
The sun's finally out in Vancouver, the car was getting checked out lots today. Not sure anyone knows what it is, but it sure is sparkly.

 

Just saw a new 2010 prius the other day, the first one I've seen on the road. I'm not sure if it's a test drive or not, probably not since it was commute hours, but it was accelerating really slow in stop and go traffic lights. I'm very patient with slow drivers/hypermilers if they're not ridiculously slow, but I understand a lot of people will not feel the same way and they have reason to stereotype against prius drivers.
On the other hand, I had a prius tailgating me around the same time and location and was zig zagging through the cars after it passes me.....so, there's definitely some aggressive drivers in a prius as well.

 

tell your buddy to drive what he wants to for whatever reason he sees fit. next time you want your boat towed maybe he can do it for you. let freedom ring. its too bad we dont have a market economy anymore. i drive a prius because i choose too. dont you?? well, of course. the hell with the folks that say your vehicle is worse for the environment because of battery or whatever.fight for your friends right to drive what he or she wants. the rest is nonsense.

As long as that freedom to drive whatever you want comes with a personal price tag for the degradation you cause exercising that freedom... There is no intrinsic right to pollute other's lungs or affect other's productivity in any form. Otherwise tax payers and citizens pay the price of such indulgence.

 

Since no one generally drives faster than I do, I don't often get cut off. The ones that do drive faster are really over the edge and are usually way ahead soon or pulled over to the side.

I love the way the Prius smoothly accelerates from any speed and zips by almost any other vehicle.

 

Seriously? The US government says the Hummer is safe enough to buy, then that should not infringe on anybody. You know the government that we all voted for. Taxpayers? Hummers use more gas and thus pay more taxes on that gas. Get over yourself.

And where exactly are those taxes applied? Just because the government under questionable administrations say something is ok doesn't mean that it is.

Get over myself? Wth is your problem? Air pollution and the problems associated with it are backed by hard science. If somone wants to create extra pollution then they should be hit with a much harder penalty than what is currently administered. The fact is much of the taxes leveed on "fuel wasters" doesn't even get applied to the problems they create. Currently we pay far too little fuel tax and as such there is very little incentive for people to act more responsibly with regards to fuel usage and as such they buy ridiculous vehicles that spend 90% of their hourly usage doing nothing more than hauling 1 or 2 people around regardless of the capability of the vehicle.

Notice I never said people should be regulated in the vehicles they should buy, I simply said they should pay a higher penalty for making poor choices in personal transportation. That should appease all of you "don't take away my rights types" and if it doesn't then too bad. This is the reality of the situation we currently face. We don't even come close to paying the true cost of fuel and until we do I simply don't understand the bitching and whining that comes from those who choose to be wasteful, they are the ones who need to get over themselves and start thinking about their fellow citizens and their country..... It is far more unpatriotic to pollute your people and your land than it is to exercise some mealy mouth objection to having to make changes in their life for the betterment of their community both local and global.

 

The only cars that go faster than me in my Prius are the ones I let get ahead of my to block the radar traps. Works very well.

Many people confuse driving with rolling along. I pass those rolling along drivers in a flash. I just wish they would not clutter up the left lane.

 

I find this issue to be a bit paradoxical. Your argument about questionable administrations cuts two ways. The current administration is a bit dodgy on this, as they intend to bankrupt the country on misguided ideals, yet, are opposed to Nuclear power (which emits ZERO carbon based emissions). The French "get it", as they are 80% plus Nuclear power.

I think Hummers are a big waste of energy, and needlessly clog up roads. Perhaps road taxes should be based on a vehicle's GVWR (so yes, if you want to drive a Hummer, while it's your right, you should pay for it.)

Global warming is coming under increased skepticism. While everyone agrees it's happening, even countries like Australia (which is more liberal than the US), defeated their climate control bills.

The energy issue needs to be worked at a global level. The US should not lead with their chin on this, and make things worse than they already are from a economic standpoint.

Get no respect; I sure have a lot of people looking in envy at my Prius especially Prius owners. Oh, there is the new one. Wow, that looks nice? One motorist gave me two thumbs up. The people who think we are crazy have never driven a Prius. In large part, they too would like to have a battery powering them down the road. Another thought that runs through their head is, Dang that guy is getting 50 miles to the gallon and I'm not. Lets run him off the road! Getting 50 mph ought to be against the law.

They would all like to own a hybrid today but maybe can't afford it right now. Everyone and I do mean everyone should own at least one hybrid to get around in when gas prices are high and when they are not. The Prius is just a darn fine car that just happens to get good gas mileage. Everyone will be driving an electric car of some kind or another in the not to far distant future. For me, I would like to see us send fewer dollars to the Middle East. Supporting people who want to kill us does not make any sense to me.

I'll weigh in here. First, FL8...thanks for the above comments. In general I agree with you.. not necessarily with your slam it down your throat delivery, but as a concept, I agree that we all need to do our apart in cleaning up the environment by making much better choices.

When I purchased my 2006 Highlander Hybrid I really went into the dealership for a second Prius and after first being discouraged by the dealership who told me they could get me a "better deal" on a "nicer vehicle" and then not being able to find the version I wanted, I was "talked into" buying the HiHy. It's a great SUV... gets 25-27 MPG and is safe and comfortable but it's just too much car for me and that eats at me. So, I'm getting another Prius and hope that my HiHy will go to a good home where someone else who needs the space can make a better choice for themselves (realistically, it will most likey end up in an action yard somewhere). I've had to wrestle with which is worse, burning more fuel over time or buying yet another vehicle to put on the road (that gets almost double the mileage, but still pollutes). I'd value your opinion... which is worse for the environment: Driving a vehicle that is less efficient (but still a lower emission vehicle) or buying a new vehicle which is lower in emmissions and higher in MPG?
