Elon Musk: A Prius is not a true hybrid, really. The current Prius is like, 2% electric.

i think 2% electric is about right since all but regen is coming from the ICE. although we have to burn gas to be in a position to capture regen, its still something that regular cars do not have.

also need to look at the differences in efficiencies. the actual percentage is much higher than a regular car and granted that efficiency advantage is gathered from many different design improvements, but still the traction battery and motor provide a much easier way to convert and store power that would otherwise be dissipated away as waste heat or simply idling at stop lights.

so, all in all, i retract my statement and say, the Pri is probably more like "10%" EV...

well, Elon is probably more used to talking to investors to clearly understand what hybrid vehicle means... He is selling electric vehicle and Prius is actually an hybrid one :).

As much as I like the idea of EVs, I bought my Prius because it has no limits as to range, and I can "re-charge" it in less than 5 minutes.

I might be wrong, but clean-diesel cars, NGVs and fuel cell cars are more likely to win a place next to the ICE for awhile longer.

well from true plug-in Prius, i would expect full EV operation at higher speeds, so you would get best of all worlds. Without some kind of supercharging stations installed on every corner, i think full blown EV as my primary vehicle is out of the question.

I am more than open for EV Scooter... bring it on Piaggio!
