Speakers in the Gen III?

    I was able to take a look at & a listen to a 2010 Prius Package 3 with Nav at a local dealer the other day. It had the JBL 8-speaker system. The sound stage (even with the factory speakers) was much better and focused higher up (than in Gen II) on the dash.

    Has anyone out there cracked open their Gen III yet to have a peek at what speakers it has in it?
    It looked to me (without seeing behind the factory grillles) that it was still a 6½" woofer and separate tweeter component set like the Gen II (JBL) system used to have...minus the center channel speaker, of course. The front tweeters are now out of the doors and up in the dash corners by the windshield.

    I thought I read in another thread something about 6x9's....but that didn't sound right.
    Anyone know for sure?

    Bass response is much better thanks to those 6x9's.

    Now that's good to hear!

    I hope to finally get my car next week Rick, this is freaking killing me! lol It's been in Newark over a week now... I think I'm going to be the last PPP person to get their car, but maybe I'll get my picture up on the mainpage for that Lol

    At first I wasn't impressed by the '10 JBL speakers, but today I finally got a round to tweaking the settings and playing some music via the i-pod jack. Major difference!! I turned the treble down, mid up and left the bass in the middle bar. The sounds were great and the bass was plenty for me.

    The quality of the signal from an i-pod seems way better than the watered down signal from the XM Satellite. After listening to the difference, I think I am not going to subscribe to XM until XM-HD signal is available if ever. I am an SACD fan and I miss the better quality of Analog too.

    With EQ flat, I did some bass test from my laptop via AUX in. Using both pre-recorded test tones, and tone generation within Audacity, the audible cutoff seems to be 29Hz, with 40Hz being completely audible. High end, 15.8kHz is where I perceive it to start to fall off with 16kHz almost inaudible. That could either be the speakers, my hearing, or my low quality AUX cable.

    Problem I have is door rattles w/ high bass. :(

    I listened to the Gen III JBL system at the dealer and thought the sound stage was rather forward towards the dash. I like it better more centered in the car.

    What's the difference between the 8 and 6 speaker options? Do the 8 speakers come with the premium JBL system?

    2 additional squawkers for the rear doors. The JBL system also handles crossover for the front speakers within the amp (rear speakers still use a passive unit in the door).

    I've noticed the stage quite high as well, thanks to the squawkers bouncing off the windshield. I suppose you could adjust fader somewhat to bring it back to the center of the car, though I've found this to generally be an improvement over the "in the door" stage the Gen II provided.

    I sell and installed the Hybrid Audio speakers in my 2010 Prius with
    some sound deadening, WOW an increadible difference, ordering a
    new amp soon. Installed a Deep Cycle 55Ah TheV Power battery with adapters
    for the install today also. Since we dont have an alternator -
    this will create less demand from the main battery.

    I installed the Hybrid Audio Premium speakers in my 2010 Prius II;

    what a great improvement (with some sound deadening)

    I ordered a new amp also.

    I installed a TheV Power 55 Ah battery this am with battery terminal adapters for easy install and more reserve capacity.

    This is impressive given the equipment in the car! It is amazing how low those 6x9 woofers can go...and how high those mid-tweets can go! This goes along with another person who tested a Camry JBL system and said that it can go to 35Hz.

    I very happy with the plain OEM JBL system!
