Hybrid components warranty-California Emissions state

For the most part, the vehicle will be cover by the warranty that applies to the state the vehicle is registered in.

To get a Prius III with the Solar Roof package, go to your local Toyota dealer and talk to the Customer Relations Manager to see if they are willing to order a Prius III with the Solar Roof Package for you through the region. This may add to the total time that it take to get this vehicle.

A Prius III with Solar Roof Package is avaliable for all regions to order, if they feel enough of a demand exists.

 

CARB states are CA, CT, ME, MA, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VT.

NJ, NY & CT are in the same region.

I suspect the warranty is based on where the car is sold.

 

As for the which state the warranty will fall under, My bet is at where the state where VIN number first gets registered.
If JimN is correct, that means people from WA, NV, AZ, and OR would be flocking to California to get their 2010 Prii since we have the extended CARB Emissions Warranty for the Battery and the Hybrid Components.

Has anyone else delved into this any deeper?

I just took delivery of a Prius III here in CT. I was reading the warranty booklet last night, and I noticed that -for California- and the other "California emission states" (or something like that - I dont have the book in front of me) - the emissions system -including the traction battery- has a greater warranty.

If I remember the language correctly - there seemed to be an implicit requirement that the Prius be "California Certified" (giving the impression that a Prius sold in the other states may or may not be California Certified - and thus - may or may not enjoy the benefit of the longer Warranty).

So my real question is this: How do I know if my Prius - purchased in CT is or is not "California Certified"? (Or does it not matter?)

Does Toyota, or any other auto manufacturer, make a different car for different states? I thought all cars manufactured in the US or imported in to the USA had to meet the most rigid state emmission requirements. Is this correct?

BTW, if you purchase your Prius in California, you will probably be required to pay the California sales tax that is higher than most, but not all, states.

 

At one time, at least, California vehicles were manufactured to different emissions requirements - set by California Air Resources Board (CARB). The auto manufacturers were none too happy about that. Some other states also adopted the CARB requirements.

However, I do not know that this model-differentation continues today.
