I have a 2006 package #3, with a single-disc CD player. I should have asked this a long time ago, but here goes...

I listen to a lot of books on CD that I borrow from the library. I have found that playback gets stuck on quite a number of these CDs. The CDs in question don't appear to be dirty, and they usually play all right on a regular CD player. I had the same problem with the CD player in my last car, and just put it down to age. But I've had this problem with the Prius CD player right from the start.

Does anybody else have this problem?

Our 2006 plays just fine, but then we have the JBL system.

Quite often, the CDs I've burned on the computer don't want to play on the Prius. They play fine once loaded, but sometimes take a few tries to get started.

If the CD has a paper label on it, that may be the problem. There is less clearance in an automobile CD player than a stand-alone player.

If you've had this problem since day one, why didn't you take it back to the dealer as a warranty issue?

I noticed mine also freezes up with the WMA files. Instead I switched to MP3's and the problem went away. Does you radio have the MP3/ WMA logo on the bottom right hand side?

I don't use paper labels, so that's not the issue. I did contact the dealer, and asked other owners, and the general response was "Yeah, it does that." The dealer wasn't willing to change anything, as long as most discs worked fine, which they do. Soon, I plan to put a real stereo system in it. :)

Thanks for the replies. My issue isn't with MP3/WMA CDs or paper labels. The problem is with commercially produced CDs. In case I misled, it doesn't happen all the time with all CDs -- but once every now and then. As I said, I mainly listen to audiobooks borrowed from the library. Out of an album containing 8 discs, say, I occasionally get stuttering on 1 or 2 CDs on certain tracks (sounds like the "needle is stuck") -- but not always. And it is usually limited to specific tracks on the CD. I didn't take it back to the dealer immediately because I assumed it must be because there is something wrong with the CDs -- since they are borrowed CDs they could easily be dirty or scratched. And they probably are. But the few times I've tried to play them on a regular CD player, they've usually worked. I think that the Prius CD player is more sensitive to imperfections.

The reason I bring this up now is that I'm currently in the market for a 2010 Prius. I am hoping that this issue isn't with something common to the Prius audio systems. It seems it isn't, since I haven't seen many other complaints, so I feel better about it.
