POLL : what MPG are you getting in your gen 3

I only had my Winter Gray IV for 6 days and all driving has come on back country hilly roads, mostly 30 minute commutes, for a total of 196 miles. I've always found that hills are the worst condition for good mileage but the 2010 is up about 8 mpg from another Prius I have, a 2007. So far the mpgs are impressing me.

 

I hear red cars are most fuel costly :rockon:

 

Two tanks so far 61 and 65 on the second.

 

My three tanks in the ZVW30 have been focused more on testing than ordinary driving. So far, it looks like Shell 87, E10 is the fuel winner.

driving a prius is new to me... I have had my 2010 for less than 2 weeks. What a fun car to drive though! I have averaged between 55 MPG and 60 MPG. I drive about 120 miles a day minimal round trip for work.... so the MPG's are important to me. I used to fill my Camry up no less than 3 times weekly and have only filled up the Prius 2 and 1/2 times in a week and a half. I'm loving it.

 

I really shouldn't vote for another month, after rolling up more than one refill. First tank was a fraction over 55.

 

Are any of you guys doing the math yourselfs? from my experence the car and every other car over does it on the mpg

like mine always says about 4 mpg more than i'm reqally getting.

 

1st tank 54.4 mfd and 52 pump (but i didn't fill it the first time the dealer did)

at one pip and 45 miles to empty it only took 9.1 gallons

 

2010 Prius III with Navi

So far with over 4,000 miles 51 MPG based on miles driven and gallons used. The MPG guage is usually off by about 2-3 MPG in the positive. If it reads 55 MPG the MPG by miles driven and gas used will usually place the real MPG between 51+and 53 MPG.

The car is usually used most by my wife who does not drive for fuel economy.

When I drive the car it is easy for me to get over 55 MPG.

I've heard this before and I don't feel there is any validity to it. The tanks are underground and the temp doesn't fluctuate very much if any. Even if it were true, any gain you would see on the first tank would be offset by lower mileage on the next.

 

Yesterday I went down to 0 miles to empty and drove a good mile or two after that. Fill up: 9.9 gallons.

City driving only, 2 tanks: 53.46MPG (4.4L/100Km).

I tried the Eco mode and the Normal mode. I get exactly the same mileage in both but the car is much more responsive in Normal mode. At first I was getting slightly better mileage in Eco. However, after getting the proper feeling for the accelerator pedal I now get same mileage in both modes. I think that if you know how to gently modulate the throttle, then there is not much need for the Eco mode...

 

550 miles on the first tank and still going. I'll probably gas up for the first time Tuesday or Wednesday. My commute to/from work must be perfect for the HSD system. I'm consistently getting over 65 on my commute.

 

On my 2nd tank (of my new 2010 Metallic Gray with Nav ) in mixed driving over rolling terrain, my dash calculator says I am getting 56.5 MPG.

COMMENT ON REPORTING MPGs: This poll averages 52.5 mpg with 51 people reporting. I noticed that the federal site at fueleconomy.gov only has FOUR 2010 Prius owners reporting, and the average there is only 48.1 mpg. I entered my number a few days ago (I think they only update once a week), which should help.

HOW ABOUT THE REST of you folks sending in your data. Or, am I missing something here? Is is because we eschew the feds?

Might help us get the word out on this wonderful car, though.

 

Don't have a '10 / have an '08 ... but I know what you mean about "perfect" commutes. On those occasions that I need to take my daughter to school - which is about 9 miles each way with generally light traffic, moderate speed limits and relatively few traffic lights / stop signs along the way - the display almost always shows more than 55 mpg for the round-trip, and has been as high as 68 mpg ....

FOR Glider: I post "Mithril's" MPG's on that site and just checked out the 2010 Prius listing there. That "average" of 48.1 is a bit misleading at best ... especially with one of the four having an average in the 38 mpg range! Once they catch up with your info - assuming no one else chimes in in the meantime - three of the five will then be over 50 mpg ....

FOR Glider ... part two: Looks like the site has updated their info since your post / my comments above. I see you are now on the list, and the new average MPG for the 2010 Prius - with a total of 6 owners reporting now - is up to 49.5 from 48.1 ....

 

I've been driving Peg 'Prius' for about a week now, got scared when the odometer read 420 (my previous cut-off point for fuel) and refueled on the Jersey coast (where gasoline is .06/gal. cheaper than in Delaware. The computer said i averaged 58.3 mpg; but the truth is known at the pump. The attendant added 0.4 gallons after the gasoline pump automatically shut off, so i got an honest full tank. The results, 61.38 mpg for 420 miles, with about 25% of those miles with air conditioning running. The mpg seems to be improving as the car gets 'broken in'. Acceleration in ECO mode(staying in the ECO zone) is a bit slow, but not to the point that i get horns blaring or a one finger salute. Having the air conditioning on, seems to make a difference. Can the a/c be automatically turned off when in the 'Power Zone' of acceleration?
