Hello all, newbie here and seriously considering buying a 3rd gen and want to know if everyone is buying one at MSRP. My wife and I went to the dealer in Texas yesterday and they are firm on selling at MSRP.

Yep, almost all the posts I've read have it at straight MSRP, with very minor discounts on accessories like 3M paint protection film, rear bumper applique, etc. Some isolated folks have reported dealers charging over MSRP (in my case, Cedar Rapids Toyota wanted $500 just to go on their waiting list, non-refundable and not-applicable to the purchase price!!).

Right now, with limited availability, it's a sellers market. Doesn't hurt to ask for their best price, but we're probably several months away from there being enough inventory to switch it to a buyer's market.

I paid MSRP, but got exactly the car I wanted (and am super happy with it!). Good luck!

New Jersey = MSRP, Prius IV with Sunroof. Bought it last week. Doc fee was $276 (that fee seems to change among dealers). I also called several dealers in NJ/PA and all of them were MSRP as well.

Yeah, one dealer here in Austin wanted $3k over MSRP just about a month ago. I said no thanks and I was thinking good luck selling any with $3k over MSRP. Not this year with the recession. The dealer called me just about 2 weeks ago and want to know if I am still interested in buying and I said not with $3k over MSRP. He said they have stopped doing it but overall I am turned off by their practice.

I visited Ventura Toyota yesterday to test drive the new Prius. They had the cars at MSRP, which included a processing fee that appeared on the window sticker, so I guess that is part of MSRP.

A few of the vehicles had dealer-added options such as special wheels or rear-window tinting.

But several of the cars had incentives of $250 to $500 off. I don't know how long these are lasting, possibly this weekend. It does not really matter to me since we are not planning to buy immediately.

Here on long Island , NY some dealers say they sell at MSRP
but they are loading up all their prius' at the port with
3m clear film that says "prius" on top of the rear bumper
    remote start
    wheel locks

    adds $1300.00 to the MSRP

of course it probly only cost them $300.00

Thats why they earned the name "stealership"

I think it depends on location. In the SF bay area you can get one slightly below MSRP.

Just ordered a 2010 Prius III w leather & Nav. MSRP here in Raleigh.

Sorry. I was shocked, too. I went to 4 dealers (Ford, Honda, 2 Toyotas) and all said they were VERY busy. Not sure if Raleigh is just doing better than the rest of the country or if a certain segment of the population is cruising right along in this economy.

Some Toyota dealerships in my area are starting to discount the new 2010 Prius $500 and one dealer is advertising in the Sunday's paper $1,100 discount on selective 2010 Prius from their on site inventory. This is not for any pre-order 2010 Prius. The discounted prices is only for 2010 Prius on their lot. If the economy does not start to improve, there could be more discounting in the months ahead on 2010 Prius that they have sitting on their lot.

I ordered my IV with Nav, put $500 deposit to go towards price and locked in a price for car--MSRP, and what they would pay for my trade. I later discovered that there were about $1300 in port add-ons, that I didn't want or ask for. When I asked the dealership manager about it, he said, "Good thing you locked us in to the original MSRP then huh."

Hopefully it sticks to that and I get it tomorrow!

In SF Bay Area, you can get about $1000 off of MSRP on the 3G Prius through Costco Auto Buying program.

Between $500-600 off of MSRP in the Baltimore area if you do enough searching. I got a III on Friday and three dealers were quoting below MSRP. Everyone else was @ MSRP.

I purchased mine MSRP yesterday at Toyota of Newport, in R.I., they have a great service (so far, only had to have them fix a 2005 Prius that I just traded in and a 2006 Tacoma, also traded in). They give free loaner cars to the people that purchase the car in service for, this for me is a huge help and they are great so far. I spend a little more on the car up front but I think it is worth it. It is my wife's car and our 05 Prius had nav that she never used, so this one does not have NAV (no one around me has one, but she did not want it for 1800 more anyway), My loaded xle v6 Camery has it, that we use on some weekends anyway.

Anyway I called Boch Toyota South (Attleboro) MA and they sent me an email with 2 cars in stock for about 1000 below msrp. I did not go so who know if there were other hidden charges.

2010 Toyota Prius III with an MSRP of $24,017 and Your Final Price will be $23,154.

2010 Toyota Prius IV with an MSRP of $26,886 and Your Final Price will be $25,843

It's very specific to regions of the country. I can buy one at $300 under MSRP with no dealer/port options any day and I had a deal at $600 under MSRP but didn't take it. That does not mean you can't do better or worse in other areas of the country. There is no blanket answer...

I got my Prius II Blizzard Pearl for about $700 off MSRP and free window tint + remote engine start installed at cost when they get it in. My purchase price was $22,477 (II base, Blizzard Pearl, Floor mats) + TTL.

I think I got an especially good deal over the 4th of July weekend because they had 4-5 II's in stock and Toyota apparently had a dealer incentive to sell cars before July 6th.

Seems like if you aren't custom ordering something to arrive you can get a fairly good deal.
