I finally got my new Prius III. Very, very satisfied and happy. Having only test driven them in the past, I like it more than I expected.
Now, more good news. I expected my insurance to increase, but was amazed that my insurance is only going up $17.00 per 6 months, so $34.00 dollars per year. I am going from a car worth about $3,500.00 retail (2001 Chrysler Sedan) to a new Prius ($24,000.00) and expected a bigger insurance increase. Another nice perk of owning a Prius. I guess it's because we drive so slow!!!

I was also pleasantly surprsed - only $44/year more than my (still with me) '04 gen II for the '10 gen III in NYS.

I was also expecting a increase, but got a reduction instead! The insurance on my 2010 is $6 less than on my 2007 Pruis for the remaining 7 months of the year. More safety features I guess.

Yep, same here. I checked yesterday to see what mine would be. $14 per year less than my 2005 BMW 3 series. Very good!

My insurance went up $200.00 every 6 months :( over my 2005 Tacoma PreRunner. My insurance company is 21st Century which is owned by AIG. I guess thay want me to bail them out. Time to start shopping for a new insurance company.

Went from a 2000 Honda Accord to a 2010 Prius II - coverage stayed the same, but cost per month only rose about $8/mo ($100/yr).

You may want to look up:
2009 Relative Collision Insurance Cost Information Booklet - National Highway traffic Safety Administration (DOT HS 811 100.) I downloaded this from the NHTSA web site.
If you look up your old car in this report, compare the collision cost to the "103" rating of the Prius.

The new Prius should cost less to insure than the GII. Mainly because with the GII, a "relatively minor" front impact would destroy the thermos and coolant transfer pump (they were not protected by the steel bumper beneath the bumper cover). A big cost to replace. The new car doesn't have those. I would expect the costs to decrease some more as the testers get the new car to evaluate. My GII cost the same as the anti-Prius (2001 Nissan Pathfinder LE AWD) to insure because of the thermos.

A friend of mine who traded his Lexus ES350 for the Gen III said that his insurance went up by a $100 a year. I would expect that it mainly has to do with the safety of the larger vehicle when compared to the Gen III right?

I haven't received my paperwork yet, but I expect that a 4 x 4 would cost more than my new Gen III. Hoping so at least...

I'm trading in a '98 explorer (CARS). Given that the IV is worth 10x more than the Explorer, I expected an increase. The good news is it looks to be only $80/yr.

Travelers insurance offers a hybrid discount. I am saving almost $400 a year from State Farm for my 2 cars.

I'm with American Family and they don't have the new symbols (repair cost calculator) for the 2010 available yet. So they made an estimate based on previous models. They said if the symbols are available when the policy renews it will be adjusted accordingly at a renewal. Coming from a 2007 XLE Camry, it's going up $83.00 for six months. Was't expecting that much of a jump since the Camry was more expensive and fairly new.

Hope when they upload the symbols for the new model it will come back down.

We have Allstate and our policy is going up by $23 every 6 months from the 2008 Yaris 2D hatch to the 2010 Prius III.
