It seems to be the consensus that we use genuine Toyota oil filters. Any ideas on where to buy them by the case? I paid $6.00 with tax at the dealership today.
Does everyone here change the oil about every 5K?

    Thanks

The forum search feature is a bit wonky at the moment. There are online sources to buy a case of yoda filters, usually works out to under $4.50 a filter that way

I went 16,000 km - the normal EU oil change interval for a Prius - running the yoda filter and Mobil 1 0W-20. Oil analysis came back fine. Be forewarned that if something should go wrong if you extend intervals, you could enter into a real pissing match with Toyota

You might try metrotpn.com they sell a lot of Toyota parts. I have also found filters and parts at Toyota of Dallas.

I will check the next time I go to the dealer. $6 is not bad. Ask for a case price as I will. You can get a free Mobil 1 filter at AUTO Zone and Discount with the purchase of an oil change.

I'm using a much larger capacity filter and don't know that I even pay $6 per - name brand too in PureOne.

The PureOne is supposed to have a good reputation. I'm sure you're aware that the 2010 requires a cartridge oil filter

It's hard to not get reamed for the gasket. Dealers and stores charge about $1/ring. Mostly out of annoyance, I bought 8 Wix 51394 and 25 gaskets for $56 from rockauto.com. Once I finish the filters I'll go back to purolator or Wix filters that cost about $4 a piece.

Are you familiar with fatwallet.com/c/12 ?
I have an automatic notice setup for oil, and usually manage to stockpile enough for around two changes in the future at about $3/qt of a good synthetic.

There. That should save you a good $20/year, easy. :)
I want to take this opportunity to thank my local quickLube place for taking my old oil without charge.

Regarding change intervals: I use spring and fall. Works out to be 7000 - 9000 miles between changes. I also change the transmission fluid about every 50k miles, and the inverter fluid per yoda recc. If I ever hear my inverter pump making noises, it will be exchanged without delay. I could very well be wrong, but if there is any part in the Prius I feel like babying, it is the inverter.

    Yes.
That is their minimum shipping charge. If you are going to buy just a small qty of parts then you may be better off buying retail.

If you buy parts in bulk i.e., buy a few cabin and engine air filters as well as the box of 10 engine oil filters, etc. then the shipping charge decreases as a % of the parts price and the net price reflects a big savings.

Ok, I read all of that. Who makes Toyota and MOPAR filters?

The Toyota filters used in North America are made by Denso in Thailand. I have no idea who makes Mopar filters

So what do you guys suggest? A case for $42 shipped or is there just as good a filter locally for less bucks?

Well, how many miles are you putting on? If you're just changing the oil twice a year, I see no sense to get a case of filters. Just get them locally, even at the dealership

However, if you're really racking up the miles, getting a case of filters would make sense. So would going the Amsoil route

NAPA gold filters are good filters and are available locally, assuming you have a NAPA store in your area. Federated Auto Supplies carries Wix filters. These filters have had good reviews.
