I was disappointed today to find out that the xm traffic does not cover the DVP or even the 401!!!! it covers the gardner west out of toronto downtown but not DVP to the 401 east/west or 404 north...

Another odd thing about the 2010 is that the instantaneous FE displays 0l/100km if the car isn't moving, even if the engine is one, noticed it a couple times when the engine turns on for warmup, can hear the engine and feel it.

Weird... I'm picking up my car tomorrow, I'll let you know if I see that problem. Looks like it's a Canadian thing since only Canadian cars report L/100km.

Everything happened pretty quickly, got my VIN on Monday, and the car tomorrow... can't wait.

Yeah that shouldn't happen. It should be 99.9L/100km if the engine's on.

My 2010 does the same thing, another quirk is if you going over 80km/h and lift the gas peddle you'd expect the engine to shut off, it doesn't scanguage shows rpm of 992 and gas mileage of 0l/100km... below 80 it really does shut off.

Woo the prius came in early I just picked up up today. Blue Premium with sunroof. I got remote start and will have the glowing door plates coming. Now if they get the ipod adapter to work with the iphone that would be sweet.

Just got my car. Yea, I noticed that the L/100km goes to 0 whenever I stop the car. Strange, you'd thought it show the actual consumption all the time.

I'll try to post some pics and my impressions of the car when I have time over the weekend.

**Update: If you are not going anywhere I guess it's not possible to calculate the L/100km since one of the variables of the calculation is the speed of the car. It should display 99.99L/100km as Tideland Prius mentioned.

in what sense? All new cars have tinted windows (green tint). I don't tihnk there are any without it (maybe Accent or Aveo if there are cars without). If you mean the dark tint like SUVs and minivans, no. Only the lower rear window is dark tinted.

Well if you're stopped and the engine's off, why wouldn't it show 0L/100km?

    Congrats!

The answer to that I believe is that above 70 (think it's around 73)km/h the engine seems to "dry run" it will keep the engine spinning but cut off the fuel injectors so your not burning any gas.

Has to do with protecting the electric motor connected to the engine I believe, too many RPMS so it has to spin the engine to absorb some.

and those cars are minivans and SUVs, right? The Prius will have standard tints so if you want the dark ones, you'll have to add it by yourself. Given that you're in California, there will be plenty of places that will do automotive tinting. There are various shades and types with associated prices to fit your budget.

Got to drive my car for a few days. It's weird at first, even for a long time Prius fan but who's never driven the car.

The first thing I noticed as I pulled out of the dealer's lot... the car makes lots of random, high pitched noises. It's something I never heard in my Corolla. Guess that's what makes a hybrid different from a "regular" car.

The acceleration is a bit sluggish at first, then becomes better when the engine kicks in. I also noticed that the gas pedal has to be pressed down a lot more than in a regular car to get the same amount of acceleration. I'm not used to this, and my dad thinks I drive slow :( I do notice that this makes it easier to control the exact amount of acceleration I want (electric only or electric + engine).

From the dash display, I noticed that the engine "shuts off" when I let up on the gas on the highway. I'm guessing it means no fuel is being used.

The L/100km gauge always goes off the scale. It goes off the scale when I accelerate from a stop light or going up hill. Not sure if that's my driving style or other Canadian drivers noticed the same. I'm thinking the consumption is something like 12L/100km but that's already off the scale. It would be great to know the consumption even if it's over 10.

Are you talking about the instant FE gauge? No point if it's over 10L/100km since you're most likely accelerating. You won't be cruisng near 10L/100km so that's why it's used as the top limit. Does it matter if it's 54.7L/100km or 22.1L/100km? Just accelerate and don't worry about it!

Turn off your AC and you'll find the sounds stop the AC is electric so sounds different than a IC cars. Add to the fact the engine is off when your not moving you hear these things. You do get a few whirs and whatnots from the front though even just opening a door gives me a whir from the engine bay area.

Put it in power mode or simply step fully into the pedal in normal. I actually chirped the tires today when a quality Vancouver driver turned into the lane I was turning into with no blinkers. Full throttle and it went like heck.

Yup this is the famous "pulse and glide" you'll read about all over here. You can keep the engine off for a very long distance on flat ground using very light throttle input.

During acceleration you get terrible economy your going slow and using a lot of fuel so the scale would have to be very large to show this number making it harder to see the lower numbers while driving at speed.

I did noticed that the AC gave out a high pitched whine when it's on. I'm starting to get used to the sounds now: the inverter converting energy to charge the battery when I touch the brake pedal, the electric motor when I push lightly on the gas, and the engine (plus I feel the vibration) when I really push it.

It does make a noise when I open the door when the car is parked. It comes from the engine bay. I wonder what that is...

I didn't try pushing it. It only has 200km so far, so after it's broken in...

I noticed that in Toronto streets (long, straight, and very little hills) I can glide for a long time with the engine off. Very satisfying. No wonder hypermiling is a hobby.

I'm starting to use the 5 min consumption displays (as it averages out the mileage over a period). I couldn't see the 1 min consumption (it cycles between settings, 5 min consumption, trip consumption, hybrid system indicator, and the eco driving graph thing). Does it have to be turned on?

Yea Vancouver drivers have a distinctive driving style, I rented a car there last year and noticed the difference.

probably the brake pump. On ours, it'll give a kinda of a buzzing noise (that and we also had to the deal with the coolant thermos pump!)

Radon, what colour did you end up getting? Blue with solar? You should post some pics at Owners Pics. :)
