Alright, so here is my concern and question. I've seen the 2010 and we all know it has the new crease, flair, along the sides. My concern is I like side moldings to protect the side of my car. However, my fear is that on the new 2010 the crease is going to be out farther than the moldings, so if parked next to a car that opens their door too wide, the other cars' door will hit the crease before hitting the protective moldings.

Does that make sense? I realize the side moldings would still be useful to protect against anything lower than the new flair along the side, such as a shopping cart, but my fear is that it will be unable to protect the crease on the side against anything higher such as an opposing car door and the crease, flair could get dinged up pretty bad.

Owners of the 2010 is this a concern? Also would it be plausible, or even wise to consider a Venture Shield or 3M protective strip along the new crease, or would that just be visibly too obvious?

Feel free to tell me I'm being too paranoid...again..I can take it.

    Hi:

You are not being paranoid! I too asked the same questions in other threads. Okay, maybe both of us are paranoid!! :)

That being said, here is a link talking about bodyside mouldings I asked in the Main Forum (I hope I copied it right):

    http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...-2010-prius.html?highlight=bodyside+mouldings

As regards to vinyl being put along the 'crease' it would help prevent chips but not dents. If done right it should be pretty invisible. I am looking at getting the Front Bumper area and Hood done with Paint Protection Vinyl along with Bodyside Mouldings.

Hope this info is of some help to you.

Not sure if these pictures will help, but the crease at the top of the door does not flair out that wide. I used a level to find the wide part of the doors.

Thanks those are interesting photos. Seems the creases don't flair out as far as I thought. Just an illusion. So I'm thinking Moldings at the right height could not only protect a portion of the entire side but maybe even the creases themselves.

Thanks again, good to know when it comes time to consider side moldings or not.

    They are fine on mine.

The wheel-wells stick out beyond the molding but nothing in the door area does.

Your moldings appear to be mounted a bit higher than mine; I have the Canadian Toyota OEM parts that were installed at the dealer. I wonder which height is more effective at preventing the dings?

Thanks for info and pic. In my opinion, silver blends in easier high or low. Since I also am getting blude, I think I am going to go with the 9 to 9.5 used by Moner. 1) Had any hits yet to know if you like the placement? and 2) Did you purchase them (or any other parts) from this site's shop and if so, how long did it take for delivery? Thank you!

    Hi Pxdrose:

You asked Moner about the Bodyside Mouldings and where they were obtained. Like myself, she is from Canada and the mouldings we have access to here directly from Toyota Canada are different than the ones that Danny sells at the Prius Chat Shop:

    PriusChat Shop : 2010 Toyota Prius Body Side Moldings [FE-PRI10] - $122.00

Here is a link to the ones at the Toyota Canada Website. Just click on the Bodyside Moulding picture on the bottom right and you will get a larger picture showing the mouldings.

http://www.toyota.ca (the first link I had here didn't work so you will have to do a bit more work than I hoped for. After you click on this link in the left column you will see all the cars listed. Choose Prius and then in the left column again you will see towards the bottom 'Accessories'. Click on this and towards the right lower bottom you will see a picture of the bodyside mouldings which when you click on will enlarge. Sorry about that. It seems Toyota Canada Website timesout for some reason and you cannot go pass the main page when creating links.)

They are narrower than the ones for the US market and as you noticed the US ones are set higher on the door versus ours....why? Good question. If I want them from my Toyota Dealer they will take about 7-9 Business days to arrive. Please PM Danny and he will give you an idea about how long shipping will be for his product.

Hope this is of some help to you. All the best.

On the PriusChat Shop picture the moldings are mounted very high, much too high in my view. On the Sigmaautomotive web site you can find an other picture of a Prius with the moldings mounted a bit lower, but still too high. In my view the 'Canadian style' mounting is the right way to mount them. Only then will the rear door molding run from door edge to door edge, and not leave several inches uncovered. I doubt if there is a difference between the US and the Canadian moldings. Perhaps someone from the PriusChat Shop can tell us if they are different?

"Thanks for info and pic. In my opinion, silver blends in easier high or low."

I mounted mine as per instruction included with moldings.
I think it was 13.25 in the front and 13.75 in the rear.

I played with locations and decided this where it would do the most good and looked best.

Thanks. Are these the moldings from Danny (Prius Chat) or another source? Do you recommend DIY, any tips?

Thanks for the info Edward. I had tried e-mailing the store twice the last week plus but did not receive a response. That is why I posted. Today I spoke with a guy that works at a Toyota dealer in OH that sells parts online (referenced in another post). He said that the store (or person running it) was moving which was probably why I had no response. So as soon as I take physical delivery of the car Saturday (never know until), I will order and have installed. I found a local body shop that will put them on for $50 so about $175 installed that is not bad. I am leaning toward the lower mount - will post pics when done!

They were off ebay from sportwing. I had bought 04 moldings from them.
I look tonight and they are on the out most part of the door panel.
I put pictures I took during installation in an album.

No real problem but it is the 4th set I have put on.
    Just follow the instructions.

We taped them on to decide which way we wanted the slashes at the ends.

Your moldings look great, but I have some questions.

Did you get you body side mouldings from Prius Chat? If not where?
Is there a small gap between the moldings and side of the door?
Did you install them at the height recommended in the instructions?

I installed as per 2010 instruction include with moldings.

Are any of these moldings OEM? The reason I ask is that my dealer tells me that they are not yet available. Thanks!

I was wondering what kind of tape that is, maybe painter's masking tape?

BTW, would you mind posting some pointers on installing these? You've got the experience.

    Yes it was painter tape.
I also taped totally around the molding so I know where to use the adhesion promoter. On a Black Prius on I tested the adhesion promoter and it discolored the paint so I didn't use it and the molding came loose and I had to redo it with trim adhesive. So on this one I mask off where the promoter need to go but I didn't notice and discoloration on the sliver. Main thing it take your time and install the moldings where it is warm.

Ok, thanks. It's good to know about the possible paint problem. Is the adhesion promoter applied to the car or the molding or both? The masking tape seems to be a very smart thing to do.
