POLL : what MPG are you getting in your gen 2

So far I have driven about 5000 miles on 10 tanks of gas. Worst (but still good) tank was 50 mpg; Average tank is 53 mpg; Best tank was 56 mpg.

 

53.** to 58.**. It all depends on if the AC is on and I get some all electric mode driving. Since my trip to work is in the dark I bet I could get a couple of more MPG in daylight. Maybe I should get my wife out to push the car in stop and go traffic. It's been a whole two years since her heart surgery. Time for some exercise.:lol::lol::lol:

 

I recently bought a used '06 Prius and it did not include an owners manual, so I ask this seemingly simple question -

How do I get the car to tell me it's "lifetime" MPG? or is that something that simply "dedicated owners" are keeping track of on their own?

 

How the heck do people get such high numbers?

I'm seeing less than 45...

I'm getting 46-48 with my 09 Touring. I drive fairly spirited, as failure to do so in MA, RI, CT will result in you being a road hazard.

 

I have a touring so I get less anyway, then I got new tires recently so its going down even more and I drive 95% highway.

Lifetime MPG = 45.8

 

The car averages about 50 mpg. I get about 53 mpg and then the wife drives it.

 

Frank, When I started, on day one, I was averaging 48 on the way home from dealer. As car breaks in it will get better and better. I tried to pulse and glide alot when first starting out. Now I really just drive normally. I don't race out of lights, but can keep up with any one or anything around me. The car is just plain "built right", like no other on the market. I put 38 front psi and 36 rear for best ride. I average 52-53 daily now and have hit as high as 71 one time. This is with or without the air conditioner on. I usually set the air to 73-75 degrees when I use it and the mileage stays rock solid between 52-53mpg. On a recent 2000 mi trip, with air half the trip and 65-70 mph, I averaged 50.8mpg for the entire roundtrip! Fantastic!

I do know for sure you will see a definite measurable difference in what you spend at the pump whether the price is high or low. Saving money all the time is GREAT. The car is comfortable local or on long trips! Plenty of room and I have almost all the gadgets I had in my former BMW 740 and my Acura TL. Best driving and most fun car to own was my BMW 740, until the repair and maintenance bills got out of hand and amde it NO Fun...Now, with my Prius, no maintenance other standard dealer intervals and plenty of savings at the pump.... and I go everywhere I would have gone in my BMW.

I thing I have learned to do all the time is to not just let off gas and coast, rather keep ever so slight pressure on the gas as I go down hills. The drag is reduced and mileage seems to be higher doing that. As I said, now it is just normal for me. I had to think about it at first but after a while it is just normal. I even find myself driving the same way on weekends when I use my Yukon which is my towing and heavy vehicle. Overall I think you will love it the more you drive it.. One thing is for sure....Every oil change interval ROTATE THE TIRES no matter what any one tells you...that is if you want to extend the tire life. I am still on the original Infinity tires at 37,500 and 6/32. Even the dealer service mgr is surprised!

Relax, enjoy the car and don't try so hard. I am not on of those drivers you see going along slow either, I drive with the flow in and around the Phila, PA area!

 

I'm at a lifetime cumulative of 57.5 and it keeps creeping up. 2009 new in February currently at around 8000 miles. I love this car! No grill blocking yet, but will do that when it gets cold in the fall (Massachusetts).

I have found that I do drive much more conservatively now then I used to, even when driving my Jeep Cherokee, due to owning the Prius. I will try to just drive normal...I think I do, but I will try your suggestion about constant light pressure even when going downhill. I thought the goal was to get it in "just battery" mode.

I'd just once like to see 50 mpg avg........right now it is always around 43 mpg. The oil was overfull, and I took some out today, so it is around 1/4" below the full dot on the dipstick. Later on this summer I might switch to synthetic oil.

We love the Prius! I drove the Jeep today and was irked I had to actually take the keys out of my pocket and USE them.

I get between 50mpg and 53mpg normally. I haven't been driving for mileage recently, so I've been getting more towards the 50mpg, which is fine for me. I do notice a drop in mileage when it's a bit colder outside. Other than my first tank in which I got 38mpg, I've been getting between 48 and 54mpg the rest of the time. I think when I took ownership of the car, the tank wasn't completely full, so I drove it and filled up with more gallons and thus the lower mileage (only for first tank). That was the only time I have a tank in the 30s.

 

Went to fillup today, and successfully got my first 55mpg+ tank! It was reading 55.9 pulling into the gas station, and as I came to the stop it changed to 56mpg, hehe. Prior to that, my last 6-7 tanks have ranged from 44 to 53.

 

I am so bummed. Only got 50.8 average at the pump and 50.2 on the MFD today, 370.1 mile tank (2 pips left). Lots of 3 mile trips on the tank.

About 53 average w/ longer trips, no A/C or heat used.

Roughly 48 avg. with short trips, heater in Winter.

 

I just completed 1555mile trip to Oregon and Columbia River Gorge, and averaged 50.5 mpg for entire trip. This is calculated from number of gallons used, not from display. Was wiith A/C on, and in cruise mode on highway. (It's hard to get accurate number of gallons purchased in Oregon, because you can't pump your own gas.)

Mithril's "lifetime average" stands at nearly 48.4 mpg after 12,241.3 miles as of the last fill-up on November 2, 2009 ...

Mithril's lifetime MPG stood at "only" 45.5 as of February 6th, 2009.

Since about the end of May -- 10 fill-ups / 3676.0 miles / 70.9 gallons -- "he" has averaged about 51.8 MPG ...
