The term "quite warm" is a comparative one, not a quantitative one. Your "quite warm" might be my "freezing." I've been diving in a wet suit, and needed it, when other folks were diving in shorts. At 26 degrees Celsius I need a wet suit! At 28 I'm okay in a swim suit. In a mountain lake I've gone in as deep as my ankles and jumped out in pain from the cold when other folks were swimming around submerged to the neck.

60°F water is okay for swimming. 70°F water is "quite warm".

Like I said, one person's ice is another person's fire.

Interesting. Can you get me the names of some good (as in extremely competent and reputable) dive operators? OZ is not a place to go on the spur of the moment, given the distance, but I could decide to visit again one of these years. The strong point is that it's an industrialized country in the southern hemisphere. There's not a lot of "civilized" places to go when it's winter here.

I have swum in Adelaide's local waters quite often and never seen a shark. My son was bumped by a dolphin once and I have been swimming with seals at Wardang Island near Port Victoria but never seen a wild shark. We do have stinging jelly fish here in Adelaide sometimes but they aren't that bad, not like Box Jellies, they can kill you.

As far as going surfing after a shark has bitten off your leg, at least he now only has 1 leg to get bitten off so his chances are 50% better of not losing a leg to a shark now.

We do have White Pointers patrolling Adelaide beaches sometimes.
As far as I know there has never been a shark bite in someone's home. But guns ...

I'm terrified of jellyfish. Often you don't even see them!

Unless they take off his prosthetic leg!

Oh! We are VERY civilized. (You don't have to worry about Guns here).
I will check out some dive operators for you. Might take a while though.

If Bev checks out dive operators, you are going to end up in a sleazy bar.

Sounds like they have a lot to choose from, since she said it would take awhile. Good research takes time. :D

Daniel you could check out adelaidedive.com the owners name is Ben and he claims 'diving is better than sex', so this maybe right up your alley. ;)

Also you could check out bluewaterdiving.com.au

I don't know if these are reputable dive operations as I have not experienced them myself. Something I would like to give a go, but not this time of year.
