I'm sure like many others on this site that are waiting to buy our Prius's this friday, there is a bit of uncertainty looming.

Some of our friends on this site have posted that they got their Prius's under the program already from a dealer that was willing to take the early risk. Then there's the rest of us, us just waiting to drive our "clunker" down to the dealership Friday and take our new Prius home finally.

For the others on this site that are planning to buy their Prius on the 24th, i wan to know how the dealer is handling the program and how the whole process is going.

Oh and has any of the dealers mentioned a 10 day confirmation period for the dealer to get the credit and if you have to wait to take your Prius home or if you can take it right away?

How's it going? I'm tearing my hair out! My dealer hasn't asked for any ten day confirmation period. That would be a "watch me walk-away" conversation. But I haven't got the "100% for certain, come hell or high water, yes bring in your clunker and drive away in the Prius" from them either. I'm going to call tomorrow and verify that I'll be able to pickup on Friday. If not, I have to put a halt to my bank loan until I can actually buy the car. Tomorrow (wednesday) is my last chance for the bank to get me a check by Friday afternoon.

I wish they would just say "Come on in, we've had your deposit for weeks, we've both waited this long, take your car and we'll settle with Mr. Obama..."

When you do get your car, would you send a post to the thread:
    http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...u-first-get-official-4500-cars-incentive.html
    Thanks!

I have a car with my name on it that is currently making it's way from port to dealership. It should be in any day. My sale rep said as soon as it's in and the CARS program is in effect that I can come pick it up.

That's exactly the same boat as I'm in. As soon as I get the call I'm rushing my Suburban down to Toyota and driving away in a new 2010.

Did any of you try to deal with them? They ended up giving us 4k for our explorer which had a blue book trade in of $1200. I liked that thought better than the possibility of being crushed by red-tape by the program.

Not a dealer I spoke with could offer any significant discounts on a pkg II or III. They all said the same thing: they make their greatest profits on the higher-end models, and just don't have all that much room to negotiate on a II or III without many extras. At best, they were talking about a few hundred, not a few thousand. And, all of the trade-in offers we received were in the same ballpark, and in keeping with the KBB numbers--no incredibly generous offers.

    FYI -
I just spoke to the folks at the CARS.gov hotline number and got some more concrete info. According to them, the dealers got information on how to sign up earlier this week, but will not be able to sign up until this Friday, the 24th. It may be early Friday or just before midnight before they'll be able to apply. Once they apply on the 24th, their application will be reviewed and has to be approved. So it may be Monday the 27th of July or later before they'll be fully approved and receive their user ID and logon to process CARS deals. This pushes back the actual delivery date of our vehicles by the number of days to process and at the earliest it appears that Monday or Tuesday we can get our deals finalized. For what it's worth, a couple more days' wait doesn't seem that bad. Just hope they process the applications in a timely manner!

For what it's worth, I just got a call from my dealership with the same exact information that Sphyrna is reporting. They're telling me that they expect to be able to process cars under the Cash for Clunkers program starting Monday the 27th.

Our 2010 Model II arrived Monday and after market leather installation has been completed. So the car is just sitting at the dealers......

I too will call today. The dealer requested title, registration and insurance certs on our qualifying clunker which I have so I'm just awaiting word on when to pitch up and pay.

Our other car is a 2006 Prius. I'm looking forward to seeing both vehicles side by side in our garage.:)

Quick question about the Certs needed by the dealers. The CARS.gov website says you need to show proof of insurance for the previous 1 year prior to date of turn in. How are you showing this? Are you calling your insurance company and requesting last years docs? I don't have my '08 insurance docs (shredded).

My insurer emails my documents, so I opened last year's message and reprinted the old proof of insurance. Hopefully I won't be asked for last year's registration, though.

Bah, grumble, complain.....my 1993 Honda isn't "Clunker Enough" for the government. So guess I wait until the mad rush to purchase created by this program dies down, then negotiate for the embarrasing bit of nothing a dealer will give me for my Honda. Just once it would be nice if a government program would of resulted in some tangible benefit to me, yes I'm complaining.

To the rest of you? Guess I'm happy for you. If you've got an almost worthless clunker it's a great deal. Just don't understand why I'm being penalized because I happened to buy a "relatively" economical older vehicle instead of buying a 1993 Ford Expedition.

Bah Humbug! If I could work my will," said The Electric Me indignantly, "every Gas Guzzling Owner who goes about with 'Cash for Clunkers' on his lips, should be boiled with his own full tank of unleaded, and buried with a Drill Offshore Bumper Sticker through his heart. He should!

Just bought a 2010 Prius level III today in Blizzard White under the Cash For Clunkers Program. :D

I got a whole additional $100 off the MSRP

Picking it up on Monday August 3rd when I get back from vacation.

I'm lucky I did it today and didn't wait until I got back from vacation.

The CARS program officially goes into effect on Monday July 27th.

The dealers that want to participate have to register with the Government tomorrow July 24th.

Now the bad news "Do the Math as they say" One billion dollars divided by an average CFC pay out of $4,000 equals 250,000 vehicles. Now divided by 19,000 new car dealers equals an average of 13 cars per dealer.

I was number "7" at Day Toyota here in Pittsburgh at 1:00 pm. BTW they're a smaller Toyota dealer in the area.

Do you want to be a sales person at a car dealership on Friday July 31st when the money has probably run out ? I'm betting there is at most ten days to two weeks worth of money on the table.

I'm just bringing in everything; title, registration and five + years of the clip and cut insurance certs The Hartford mails us annually. No glitches I hope. The dealer already has called The Hartford with the new VIN so this should go thumbs crossed, easily.

13 cars per dealer is certainly a frightening number...:eek:hwell: I already have a down payment for my 2010 and It should come in within the next week, and I'm planning on doing the CFC program. I'm worried the funds will be ran out by the time the car comes in, and then I'll be trading in my vehicle instead I guess eh? I wonder if I could ask my dealer to save me a spot on the CFC program? Or would that not be allowed? Any comments as to what I should do?:(

PS.. How did you buy a car with the program when dealers haven't even registered yet? I don't understand how people are doing this.

If you noticed, they aren't officially taking delivery till the 3rd of Aug. Very few dealers are willing to part with their Prius's till the gov. deal is official. If they gave all required docs, then the dealership can process this "claim" as soon as they get their official reg. # from the gov. (probably tomorrow) and then they just wait for the customer to come pick up their new car on the 3rd of Aug. Notice, they didn't get to take it home today or tomorrow or Sat. (maybe Mon. but only if the gov. reg. is complete on the dealer end and all customer docs are in compliance with Fed. program!)

    Good luck to all!

I could have taken mine home today. I'm going on vacation and I didn't want to take delivery today only to have my new Prius sit in my garage with the warranty running and me not driving it until the 2nd of August. The car is officially being delivered on July 31st due to it being a July sale. I'm just picking it up and handing over my clunker on Monday August 3rd.

Watch out, if you're concerned about the warranty running, there are some dealers that list the car SOLD and start the warranty running from the day you leave a deposit. They usually won't tell you about it either, you just get the surprise when you thought you had another couple of weeks warranty to take it in for service and suddenly you're too late!
