Nothing "bad" with that, but I'm a bigger fan of clunkers being demolished than I am just a Prius fan-boy.

I would'nt call our old vehicle a clunker, but it was an AWD 2000 explorer with 5l but if you had a family and a boat or some other thing to pull it would be an excellent 2nd or 3rd automobile.

Until someone comes out with a vehicle that can haul trailers AND get 30mpg or more then there is a need for trucks/SUVs.

I am relieved that ours will not have to be crushed...it has been a good car for us and hopefully it will be a good car for someone else. When they decide they want another, hopefully they will get something that gets better MPG.

I got my Blizzard Pearl II on 7/11. Trade in a 93 Camry V6 for 4500 credit. I drove it home on the same day. Got about 1000 off of MSRP as well.
The only annoying thing is I don't get any scrap value for my car when cars.gov said I should.

How can you be sure you didn't just trade in your old car? That $1000 off MSRP is practically impossible on the II, much less if you got $4500 for your car. I think your deal was not through the CARS program. Still I think that's an amazing deal. But I guess a dead giveaway would be if you see your old car for sale in their used car lot!

My dealer will be participating but, they have to wait till the 24th.. No way they are allowing people to do it any sooner.

If anyone has heard from their dealer guaranteeing they would complete the deal on Friday, would you please let us know?

FYI - As I posted on RiderGSXR714's thread also,

I just spoke to the folks at the CARS.gov hotline number and got some more concrete info. According to them, the dealers got information on how to sign up earlier this week, but will not be able to sign up until this Friday, the 24th. It may be early Friday or just before midnight before they'll be able to apply. Once they apply on the 24th, their application will be reviewed and has to be approved. So it may be Monday the 27th of July or later before they'll be fully approved and receive their user ID and logon to process CARS deals. This pushes back the actual delivery date of our vehicles by the number of days to process and at the earliest it appears that Monday or Tuesday we can get our deals finalized. For what it's worth, a couple more days' wait doesn't seem that bad. Just hope they process the applications in a timely manner!

I heard essentially the same thing from a dealer who called me last night. She mentioned it would be Monday the 27th before they could complete any deals under CARS.

    MSRP 234xx (base + des fee + special color + bluetooth + mat), and I paid 224xx + tax - 4500 cash for clunkers.
I guess the dealer would take a loss amount to 3k if they try to sell my old car on their old car lot.

    Impossible is nothing, my friend.

My understanding (and someone can correct me if I'm wrong here), is that sometimes dealers will sell at little to no profit to increase their sales volume which, in turn, lowers their invoice cost for future cars.

Is that true for ALL of Toyota's vehicles, or just the hot sellers? That's good to know.

cars.gov website has no provision or CLUE what it will cost a dealership to send these cars to scrappers. Scrappers don't send trucks or trailers... and, with 250,000 cars hitting god knows how many scrappers in the USA, what do you think that will do to the supply & value of scrap metal from cars?

If you get $50 or $100 for your car, feel lucky. It's $175 per vehicle to load it to a transporter and take it off my lot... where do you think we're gonna store these heaps for 2-4 weeks? The expense of doing this + paying off sold cars that are NOT really yet paid off because we don't have $4500 of the dollars needed to pay off the car will mean added burden to dealers' cash flow issues as well. That $4500 x many cars adds up fast when you are a big dealership. These are all things you are possibly unaware of.

Maybe a silly question, but can't someone just drive the vehicles to the scrapyard? Hire 2 workers from a temp agency to move vehicles from the lot to the scrapyard. Heck, I work a compressed workweek...I'd be happy to move these cars around for considerably less than $175 per vehicle on my days off. Knock an additional $500-$1,000 off of the price of one of the CARS customers new vehicles in exchange for having them move all of the clunkers to the scrapyard. They're all supposed to run and drive.

Otherwise, yeah, I agree the scrap value is going to plummet as the program rolls and more cars are scrapped.

Tom, once they have been processed in the system, if any of these cars turn up on a road, the dealership gets hit with a $15,000 fine per offense. You can bet that none of these cars will leave the dealer's lot on anything but a transporter...
