I was driving down the 805 to Chula Vista today when I saw an older model blue Prius coming up to my left. It was obvious that they were trying to catch up (only going 70). They slowed and looked and pointed, waved. Then I opened the roof for them, they loved it!

Most obviously the Gen II owner at work who stopped parking in his usual spot and started parking next to mine.

Funny... I've had 2 other new cars in my life but I've never had people stare like they do at my Prius.

Mine is the only Gen III I've seen around here though. Don't know if that has something to do with it.

So, I'm walking out of the post office and notice a G2 silver driving down the street. Before I get across the street the car literally stops abruptly behind my G3 and park, totally blocking me in! This nice couple gets out and asks me lots of questions and begin to compare all kinds of features with their G2. They were totally blown away!

They are actually moving to florida this weekend and decided to wait until they got there to look at one. They both looked at each other and said they now are sure they will be buying one.

A few minutes later I saw them at a local grocery store. After following me to the checkout line and they again asked me all kinds of questions. I wished them luck on the move and left. As you might have guessed, their G2 was parked right next to my G3. Of course, I park out in the lower 30, so there parking location was quite intentional.

I thought the whole experience was cool.

    dsviv - awesome story.

Driving to work today, I look up and I am directly behind a Gen I, and a Gen II was directly behind me. My new Prius normally gets stares, but with a mini, multi-generation caravan going, we all got TONS of looks. In the DC area, I have seen very few Gen IIIs so far, but Gen IIs are everywhere. So, as people trade in, I bet sightings (and starings!) will be more common.

I pulled into the local Costco gas station last night (first gas station visit since July 3rd). The attendant on duty couldn't stop asking me about the car. He asked about everything from the the solar roof to the redesigned front end. --TK

    theowl -

What are the chances of all 3 gens being in the same place at the same time? You were part of a very exclusive caravan.

In eastern PA I have only seen 1 G3 on the road so far. I didn't know if I would recognize a G3 if I saw one while driving, but I had no trouble. I got a quick glance as I passed it, but couldn't tell which model.

I had an older couple in a Cadillac honk and wave at me yesterday, then roll down their window and stop short at the next light to ask me a bunch of questions. I was on my way to pick up my son at preschool, so couldnt pull over and chat, but thought that was kinda funny.

Every time I run errands there is someone in the parking lot checking out the car; some are G2 owners, others are thinking about joining the Prius family. Most of the time people ask about the car, so I get to tell them how much I like it - let's call it Prius evangelism.

Coming out of the hardware store today I watched as a guy walked all around the car then peered inside, presumably to see the interior layout. He walked in the other direction before I got there, so no chance to answer any of his questions!

It was definitely odd, especially since I hardly ever seen Gen Is around DC any more.

We had the local fire department call us and ask if we could bring the Prius to the fire station. Apparently the fire department was practicing using the "jaws of life" on another car and they wanted to see a Prius so they knew where the wires ran from the batteries in back to the motor so if they ever needed to cut up a Prius they had an idea where the power ran. I do not know if cutting the lines would cause safety concerns for the firemen or the passenger but I thought it was great they were concerned.

I've only seen one other G3, and it happened to be the same color as mine. I was parked in front of a G1 a week or two ago when I went to Philadelphia with some friends.

I was looking and pointing at someone's 2010 Black Prius today. It was the first one I have seen in the area. I had just driven by a scenic spot and chose it to be where I will shoot some pics when ours comes in. I saw that Prius heading there and wondered if they would snap shots in that spot and post them here. lol. My husband just thought I was nuts.

It's weird, but in the past couple of days I've seen probably 3 or 4 Gen 1 Prii (Rockville, MD - just outside DC).

I have also seen a red Gen 3 at the Grosvenor Metro parking garage. That's the second one I've seen "live" except for two Prius Chatters' that I was invited to see.

In my neighborhood, there's someone who owns a Honda Insight. The shape is just like the Gen 2 Prius, but it's smaller, and the tail lights have a red outline.

I have seen a couple Gen Is (one belonging to the county), about 6 gen IIs, and one other gen III in the NE Atlanta area...I know there are more as we saw 3 sell the day we bought ours.

Here in La Mesa/San Diego it is not at all uncommon to find Gen I and II's all together The III's are starting to show up. When I got mine less than 2 weeks ago EC Toyota had at least 5 other SR IV's on site, I only saw one today.

Our IV is sitting at the dealers waiting for cash for clunkers to roll out. We did a test drive on Wednesday and for fun brought it home. A neighbor was driving past, saw the dealer plates and stickers on the car and yelled out "BUY IT!". We replied - "ON MONDAY!"

LOL I did this on the way to the dealer when trading in the Gen I and doing the photo/video shoot for the Gen III. I lead the pack, my wife following in our Gen II, and my father-in-law driving the Gen I.

Photo in opposite order for the few days I had possession of all three.

Then, of course, there's my Avatar!

Back to topic, I get some turned heads, lowered sunglasses, etc. on occasion from other Gen II drivers. The Gen III sightings are rather rare still and on the freeway going opposite direction, making "tooting" impractical.

Great picture, Rick! Your Gen III looks so much bigger than the Gen II -- I know there's less than an inch difference in reality, so it must be the color and shape? Or is the Gen II much further back (closer to the curb) in the picture?
