There have been recent threads on here about Mitsubishi's i-Miev, which will soon be on sale. But in this article, with an interview with Mitsubishi's President, he sounds very committed to focusing on the future (if actions speak louder than words, consider that the i-MiEV will soon be on dealer lots in Japan).

"Masuko says the company will follow up with a slightly larger electric vehicle of a similar size to the Honda Fit or Toyota Yaris compacts."

"An idea under consideration is to offer customers a choice of ranges when they buy the car, including cheaper models that travel shorter distances on a single charge." (MiEV goes 100miles/charge)

"At the Tokyo Motor Show this fall, Mitsubishi will show the second tenet of its electric strategy: a plug-in hybrid vehicle that, like its EVs, will use lithium ion batteries supplied by GS Yuasa, a Kyoto battery maker."

"Mitsubishi says it expects the business to break even once annual production reaches 30,000 in around 2013."

Sounds like they're going to stuff an EV drivetrain into their Colt ([ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_Colt]Mitsubishi Colt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]). It's a nice little car - too bad they didn't bring it over to the US.

This car was in the US. Either as the Dodge Colt, or the Mitsu Mirage. I owned one of each :)

After Mitsu let safety defects go unaddressed -- and actually actively tried to hide them despite accidents on the roads, they lost me as a customer.

Too bad, really. But I have a long memory.

I suppose I should have been more clear: it's too bad they didn't bring over the version of the Colt based on the Smart forfour platform.
