Hi just ordered a IV with solar roof. First chose Winter Gray but just phoned in a change to Barcelona Red. Might as well be daring with the color choice. My question is that when the roof is open and you turn off the car, does it close automatically or do you have to close it manually before shutting down? My old after market roof on a Suburu has auto close and after 10 years of just walking away, I'm afraid I would forget to close it.
We are promised delivery in about 5 months (Xmas) but that makes me think early spring is more realistic.

you cant order a prius. if the dealer told you he is, he is lying. what they do is look for your requirements in their coming allocations and perhaps some other locals..sorry to burst your bubble but it happened to me and if you search the board you will find other similar posts..

I don't understand what you mean. A $1000 deposit to me is an order. Yes it might take 5 - 9 months but it is an order.

Someone else should confirm as I don't have mine yet but I doubt it has auto-close. The reason is because of some deaths many years back that changed the liability for car manufacturers. I had the same feature on my 4Runner as part of an after market alarm (Clifford). It would roll up all windows incuding the back and sunroof. I used it that way for many years until I started having some weird electrical problems with my windows. At that point I just disabled it. You don't know how many times after that I came back to the car with everything open.

Also, I think all moonroofs nowadays make you hit the close button twice. The first time closes it half way the second, all the way. This was adopted by the manufacturers also to limit liability.

The roof does not auto-close. Found that out when we locked it and walked away from it a couple of days after buying the car, then remembered a few minutes later and went back to check and found the roof open. I wonder how often we will do that...

I "ordered" mine 6/30. They are telling me Sept/Oct. I'm using the word "order" but it really isn't accurate. They aren't building a car for me and shipping it. I have really paid for a place in a long complicated queue. When my time, coupled with color/features, appears (or can be traded for) in their shipment (not in their control), then they will call. It isn't an order as much as it is a place in line. Eventually, I image everyone will get their car but I also imagine as the queue grows, a dealer's ability to predict/time your car date becomes increasingly difficult. I'm waiting on a red IV solar too but I do have a 2nd choice color and I'll take whichever comes first. I am waiting for the sunroof :). Is this thinking correct?

Martin, just consider it another "window" ... I'd never leave windows open and lock the car. Think: LOOK up and LOCK up!

You actually can order a Prius. It's complicated and can take time... but it's possible. I believe he's got a deposit on whatever he wants "coming" eventually. Some dealers are "wait and see" and some will actively go find your car... it's complicated and depends on who he's dealing with. :)

    I'm really curious!
Rstark stated "I've ordered one and waiting". I noticed you have a Prius III on order "with a sunroof." I went to our dealer today and tried to place an order for one. He told us Toyota does not make the III with a sunroof. I showed him the 2010 Prius brochure that "they" gave us...the sales brochure says it can be added to a III. I am so confused. Have you -or anyone- actually seen a III with a sunroof?

If your order is up north, it's because Northern CA dealers don't get sunroof III's. Your dealer is partly right. They do not get III with sunroof in your region. If your dealership refuses to make an effort to get you a car, just PM me or call me. I may have a solution! I can understand not wanting to spend the extra $2800 for what you prefer not to have!

That would be a difficult car for a Northern CA dealership to get.. not without a ton of work or a lot of shipping expense. Port logistics and all. I'd possibly have that issue on a IV with 0 options or a V with 0 options as well. :) It's just relative to your location!
