I'm looking at a 2009 Prius #6 w/2500 miles but the dealer is asking 26,500 which seems alot to pay when there are 2010s on the lot allbiet leather and DVD which I'd like. What should I expect to pay for this car? Edmunds.com tells me the price is close but I was wondering what you folks had to say. Thanks in advance!

Well I paid 20k for a 2007 Prius with Package #6 recently, although the BlueBook was more like 21.5k, so I got a pretty good deal on it.

Mine only has 35k miles on it, so yeah...

The 26.5k does seem a bit high, but who knows. I don't know much about that kind of stuff myself.

well. i dont know about the options but i can tell you as someone who has had an 04 and 07 prius and who now has gen3 . there is absolutely no comparison to the 2010. far superior ( especially in handling) than the earlier models.

I'll bet. I would have loved a 2010 myself, but the options are also really important to me. In my case, I was able to get my 2007 fully-loaded by going used, whereas I could barely get the Prius II if I went new. ;)

That's what I gotta keep telling myself... I could have never afforded all these options on a 2010.

Perhaps the OP should look at a 2007 or 2008 with a few more miles on it? That should bring the price down and still give you all the features. :)

I'd only consider a Gen II if it were a Touring. When I test drove a 2004, I couldn't get away from it fast enough. It was the worst handling car I'd ever driven except for the 2003 I'd driven the year earlier which was even worse. With the touring springs, struts, sway bars, tires, and wheels, it is an entirely different car. You wouldn't believe the difference in handling.....unless of course you're one of those here that can't tell the difference no matter how night and day. If that were the case, then I'd say it doesn't matter and go with the 2009 but get a better deal that the $26K. Used car dealers *always* start many thousands higher than they're willing to take.

However, even if you can't tell the difference, the Touring stops and swerves faster according to CR. Given wider tires and stiffer springs up front, it pretty much guarantees that it will stop faster as there is more contact patch and the suspension doesn't have to compress as many inches in a panic stop to start deceleration.

I got a brand new 2009 Package 6 touring in May for $25,964. I wouldn't pay more than $24,000 or so for that one.

I have an 09 Pkg 6 which we got in Feb. The only reason I didn't wait to get a 2010 was that our lease was up and I had to replace the car. Otherwise, I would have much preferred the 2010. We looked at a Touring and decided on a Pkg 6, however now I'm wishing we had gotten the Touring. Good thing it's my wife's car... ;-)

I bought a brand-new 2009 Prius Touring #6 with several other accessories added in late April (before the 2010s hit the lot) for $25,614. You should be able to get the dealer to move a lot lower on the price, considering the 2010 is now available.

Thank you everyone for your input. I took a look at the 2009 #6 this weekend but haven't received the "real" price from the dealer yet. I can see my dilema will be be the same as some of the others; I want the NAV/leather but don't want to spend 28K+ for them in the Gen III. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to not consider the Gen III and all the latest improvements.
