    Looks like modern art. :nerd:

Have you got a key to the colours, or is the pattern the thing? I take it the bright area is the wound?

Yes, in the center, that looks a bit like the outline of the state of New York.

In Real Life, it's sort of gross. White, with black marks, and from what I am also told, some healthy looking red areas as well. From what I am told.

The enzymes are going under the wound, and pushing up, I think that is the way the doc said it was. Apparently, there was some sort of other enzyme, that used to 'dig in' and the Government said that was too dangerous or something, so they had to stop that kind of treatment.

All I know is it sounds a bit like Sci-Fi to me, but if it works, who am I to complain?

No, SciFi would involve a few nanoseconds of tricorder activity, and you'd be back to active duty before the commercial. ;)

wow....that wound looks bad. didnt realize that you lost that much flesh there. hard to see, but sure looks like a pretty large chunk missing there.

was some of that removed to clean infected skin??

as far as your previous post, you said you might know more in 6 weeks? does that mean you are on meds to hopefully fight this off?

No skin has been removed, other then the dead skin, and what burned off in the first place. Yeah, it's pretty big as wounds go. I am on clindamycin. And it is a weekly visit, that could take up to six weeks, maybe less if it gets healthy.

Now, I'm not posting this to complain (well, a bit), but just to show how freaking EXPENSIVE these 'band aids' are for my wound! And I wonder how if you don't have any money how do you get this? I mean, these are needed for my recovery. Oy.

Eighty bucks for a band aid? Talk about rubbing salt in the wound - figuratively and literally.

I don't know if you received a data card with the two dressings or not, but here is the info.

    1. Mepilex. URL: Mepilex Dressings Datacard Cliff-Notes version: The wound contact surface of Mepilex is coated with a layer of soft silicone that does not stick to the surface of a wound or cause trauma to delicate new tissue upon removal.

    2. Mesalt. URL: Mölnlycke Health Care - Mesalt® Cliff-Notes version: The discharge from the wound releases the sodium chloride from the dressing. Mesalt effectively stimulates the cleansing of wounds in the inflammatory phase by absorbing exudate, bacteria and necrotic material from the wound, thereby facilitating the natural wound healing process.

I don't want to cause any friction with your care provider(s), but $80 seems a bit on the high side. Direct Medical (URL: Mesalt ) appears to be pricing at less than the $80 territory.

    Hope the above helps.

$80 is on the high side, and it comes STRAIGHT out of my pocket--again, no health insurance. And I looked for this stuff everywhere; found it at one pharmacy. They sent me home with a 'sample' which is almost out, and I need it for the whole time I'm on this treatment. It's by the highway robbery, you ask me.

If you go to Direct Medical, apparently you can order Mesalt online for what seems to be much less than $80 per package. I don't know the size of sheet/strip you are using, so it might be a circumstance where Direct Medical does not sell the size of sheet/strip you need. However, the Mesalt product appears to be stocked in both the sheet as well as the roll. One application is to pack thin strips from the roll of Mesalt into the wound cavity. The thin strip/roll is sold by Direct Medical, so it would seem to be an option.... Direct Medical sells sheets of Mesalt, if sheets are placed on top of the wound....

Separately, Direct Medical sells the Mepilex bandages as well (URL: http://www.directmedicalinc.com/wound/prod_det_mepilex.html#buy ). If you are using the 6"x6" bandage, Direct Medical sells a 5 pack for $62.97 (which admittedly is high, but not $80 high). If you are using the 8"x8" bandage, $80 for a package of 5 is actually better than Direct Medical ($97.44).

    Hope this helps.

EDIT: I have no connection to Direct Medical. They just popped up on a search that I ran for online vendors of Mepilex and Mesalt.

Hi TJ. I hope you haven't been in much pain through this ordeal. Like Efusco I wish you didn't photo shop that wound picture. I was going to compare it to the gaping hole on my father's neck from melanoma surgery he just had.

I'll be praying for you and F8TL and all the others in the PriusChat community going through health related trials. There are lots of hard decisions to make, so I'll pray that you get the best advice and find some peaceful times during all the stress.

Well, if I don't photo shop it, it could be seen as 'gross' by some, and I don't want to annoy the masses with it.
    Thanks for the thoughts.

$80 is high but typical. ask daniel, they accidentally billed him direct instead of his private insurer. bill was like $50,000 ( not sure of amount, but ratio is the important thing here). well he told them so they billed his insurance company. well the insurance company comes back with charge of like $21,000 of which he paid a percentage of that.

so the fact you dont have insurance basically means you will pay 100-200% more than the going rate
