Motor Trend magazine just arrived on my doorstep today.
    September 2009 issue.
On page 15, it says the Toyota iQ will be coming to North America either in late 2010 as a 2011 model or else in early 2011 as a 2012 model. The vehicle will be 1.5 inches longer and the airbags will be "recalibrated" to meet U.S. safety requirements. It also says that the "Toyota iQ" will be a "Scion iQ" in North America :(.
However, in 2012, Toyota has confirmed that it will begin production of an EV version of the iQ, using nickel metal hydride batteries and a goal of a 50 mile range (it's an urban/city vehicle).

On page 18, it says that VW will put Porsche's [Cayenne] hybrid system into the newly-redesigned 2011 Touareg (new photo in print magazine only - it looks good). The highest-priced model, the V8, will be replaced by a V6 Hybrid system that will put out 290hp and 310 foot-pounds, using only 3.0 liters. The V8 will be discontinued.

A Scion? That's too bad. "HyQ" sounds like a much better name. It should be superior to the Smart, right? :)

Man, Honda must be making a killing collecting the royalties for their IMA system...

First, we got the Merceded Benz S-sedan hybrids that uses an IMA-style drivetrain...

Then we got the Hyundai LPG hybrid that is also IMA-style but with a more powerful disc motor to provide an electric-only mode..

And now we got Volkswagen using an IMA-style drivetrain too, also similar to the Hyundai drivetrain with the more powerful disc motor, also to provide an electric-only mode: Volkswagen to launch Touareg BlueMotion hybrid in 2010 — Autoblog Green

Any other automaker going IMA, I wonder..

Yeah it will. You can carry a 3rd passenger if you need to (or 4 if you have one child and one adult in addition to the front seat passenger).

It'll be cheaper to insure and cheaper to maintain.
