Just ordered my 2010, but I had a quick question on the III

I just ordered my 2010 Prius and it should be here in a few weeks. Unfortunately, there were none at the dealership, so I couldn't get in and look around inside.

My question is this, does the III trim come with the large display at the center without the nav system or is it just the standard small greenish stereo display that's pictured with the II on the Toyota website. The only reason I ask is because the Toyota site was confusing, it showed the video screen on the III's picture set, but I've seen it implied on other forums that it is just the regular small green window.

Sorry if this isn't clear, I'm in Torts class at the moment and half paying attention and half typing.

You don't get the big display unless you get the NAV package

Every non-NAV 2010 I've seen had the small screen, like this.

You should be paying attention in class, especially torts... it's usually the important little details that you will miss.

In all trim levels on the Gen III Prius, you will have all the hybrid information on the dashboard, near the center of the vehicle up front. Additionally, if you buy NAV, which is available in all current trim levels from III through V. If you purchase the NAV package (which is included with both the current sunroof and Advanced Technology packages), you will then have the center screen that you are referring to, and have the backup camera. Without NAV, you will have niether.

The big screen is in the NAV package only. Other packages have a CD/Radio only. Both packages have a small green LCD screen for the climate control system.

ckozelic, how are you ever going to understand and explain Learned Hand's formula for negligence or res ipsa loquitur if your exploring Prius package options during class. Good luck . . . --TK

Ha, let's just say my prof likes to "frolic and detour". He was talking off page about men's business fashion and something else when I was surfing the forum earlier.

Anyhow, I talked to my dealer and he said that the factory nav system would put my order back dramatically. However, he did say that they had an aftermarket solution that they could install for 1k, which would be a nice savings. Anyone have any experience with this?

If you want the NAV for the other features the aftermarket solution might not do it. And I have an aversion to dealers mucking with my brand new car. I've not yet had them not tear something up while installing an accessory. If you just want NAV on the cheap, a Garmin is a good bet.

Hmm, I'm going to have to do some more digging on this. I'm mostly interested in it for the other features. The nav would be nice, but I'm really into it for the a2dp and other assorted features. The backup cam isn't a big deal for me at all. As long as it worked similar to the pioneer in-dash solutions that are out on the market (and fit the 2010 prius) I'd be peachy.
