I bought a used 2006 3/13/09 with 43,050 miles on it and I didn't know if the CVT has been changed. I now have 46,559 so I thought it would be a good thing if I changed it. Thanks to the info on this site it was a cake walk to drain it. I bought a long noise funnel and a 3 foot pc of clear tube with a OD of .50 inchesto refill it. Now that the ATF is dripping out I will go to the toyota dealer in the morning and get 4 quarts of ATF type WS.
    Thanks,

I think it was Jayman who suggested loosening up the fill plug before draining the fluid.

    SageBrush,
I did loosen the filler plug but the next time I will take it off first so the fluid will run out better.
    Thanks,

Nice work. For those who depend upon their Prius for daily transportation, I recommend you buy all needed supplies before draining the old fluid...

That's what I say to myself, too. But enough time passes between these maintenance items that I forget the lessons I learned

Kind of reminds me of changing spark plugs by first pulling all of the wires, and later wondering where they go.

    Hi Guys,
In my defence, I wanted the CVT to drain for a day or so and my dealer is 12 miles away and we had to go that way today so that's how that worked out.

This is where I put my funnel and plastic tube to fill the CVT, I tie wrapped it to the hood and it worked great.

    Thanks for all the help,

You know you have the wires back on the cap in correct order, when it stops misfiring/backfiring

How does the 1/2 inch OD tubing fit in the fill hole? I have some tubing that's 5/8 OD and wonder if it would fit. Thanks! :)

No defense is needed. I understand the process that you intended to follow. The only issue would be if your local dealer, for some reason, didn't have ATF WS in stock.

Good question! I have a shed full of rubber hoses. But most funnels have a large opening.

i should STILL do this... i'm on original fluid.. tsk tsk on me.

it's funny seeing you guys comment about spark plugs and wires. this car won't run with an unplugged or misplugged spark plugs.. not to mention the wires are all pre ran.. so it's almost impossible to mix up or else they won't all connect. shrug. but yeah.. wrong order and such.. it won't even fire. it just throws red triangles.

You're probably too young to remember distributor caps and separate ignition wires. I once made the mistake of whipping the plug wires off a 289 motor, replacing the plugs, cap/rotor, points, etc, then when everything was buttoned up, it barely started and misfired/backfired

I made a boo-b00 and used the firing order for a 351 motor.

too young?... i've own a 302 too... i learned just about everything on that small block.

point being... it doesn't apply to a prius... shrug.

i've had the entire firing order wrong.. then i had 1 and 4 mixed... it's fun times.

i have ran my prius without plug 2 fireing.. it's really odd.. knocks like crazy.. yet still works... kinda...

1/2 od has some room so 5/8 od might work for you.

I bought tubing with a diameter slightly smaller than the funnel. Not on purpose, of course. To gain a nice fit, I slipped a couple of rubber rings on the hose left over from plumbing adventures. Worked nicely.

Sorry for the lousy sytax above. Almost sounds hai-kuish.

5/8 OD tubing fits like it was made for the job.

I'm still trying to figure out the firing order for our single cylinder marine diesel engine.

    Yo Tom,

1st of all if it is single, then there is only one, because it's diesel you have none spark plug wire so there is no wrong order...applies!!
