I do and btw, duh. The problem is getting all the pieces. And I know there is a version posted in a zip somewhere, although I can't find it now, but there seem to be different versions for different packages and the posted one is wrong for my car so I was hoping to just download it myself from Toyota.

Too much effort to find the 1-3 or 5 page pieces and combine them back into a 600+ page manual.

Duh? Nice smart nice person. Obviously not too bright if you cant find the zip online. It was too easy to download and make a single PDF.

    Back to being nice....

wow. that'll be the last time I post a hypothetical question about toyota's motives.

for those of you who skipped to the end of the thread looking for info, go back to page 5 of this thread for a PDF of the page from the manual which lists the customizations your dealer can do for you, including changing the reverse beep from repeated beeps to a single beep.

I have a question for those who have done this.

When you say, "single beep" is it a single beep of 1-2 seconds' duration, or just a long "beeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..." that continues as long as the car is in reverse?

This seems to be the only downside to the Prius, because leaving the house early in the AM is not conducive to a screamingly annoying sound coming from your car.

Once modified, it is a short single beep that is only heard inside the car.

Before the modification, the car beeps repeatedly (inside the car only) until you are out of reverse.

The beeps are inside only and it is just to alert the driver that you are in reverse.

OK, I agree that the short beep is much more tolerable.

Emailing the pdf of the manual section 6.2 and a screenshot of the screen used by the techs seems to have very conducive to getting this done.

The service receipt i got with the car when i picked it up said "set reverse beep to single beep. see instructions customer emailed." :)

A quick update on my dealer and getting the reverse beep setting changed. After speaking to a manager on the phone, service called me 30 mins. later to setup an appointment. So it is a good outcome :)

I was at the dealer yesterday to get the sing beep but they told me that its either a long single beep or the beeping that is default. They were able turn off the seat belt beeping but not the reverse.
I don't know if the dealer didn't want to do it for me or for legal reasons or if it is just not possible.

It's not a long single beep. That dealer doesn't know what they're talking about.

on the .pdf of customizable settings, it lists one as "Operation signals
(Buzzer volume)" Default setting at 7, can be changed to level 1-6 or off.
Anybody know if this would turn down the reverse beep or kill it completely if turned off?

My dealer (Servco) in Hawaii said they will charge one hour labor to change the settings... They don't care what the manual says. Labor is labor... They are really a ripoff... They want $2000 for extended warranty, $300 for BSMs and $750 for motion sensors (and it only has two sensors on the bumper)...

If i don't like , don't buy the car, they know they can sell the car immediately to someone else. There is a six month backorder in Hawai'i and they are the only dealer in Hawai'i... Sucks living in paradise.

Since that's listed in the "wireless remote control" section, I don't think it applies to the reverse beep, but rather to the tone when you lock and unlock the car.

For the reverse beeping, there are 2 options: beeps repeatedly, or beeps once. I had mine changed to beeps once, and it's not annoying at all.

How did you go about getting the reverse beeps changed to "beeps once"?

(She Who Must Be Pleased will not be pleased with the constant beeping.)

    thanks

I had that--and several other customization changes--done as part of the pre-delivery prep.

Nope. I called "Customer eperience" and told them this was BS. Next year they will probably make the horn honk in reverse and charge you $200 to make it stop. I can see somebody coming back for 1 change at a time getting to be a nuisance. They SHOULD present you with the options at delivery and at LEAST give you one free hookup and settings change.

My dealer changed the constant beep to what is now a single, short beep on a return visit. No charge.

A dealer that charges for this service is crazy. Tell them to file it on the warranty service back to Toyota as a defect. Toyota could have made a way for the customer to change it themselves, like the oil reminder reset.

Yes, I got mine done for no charge.

Funny thing is, though... since I am so used to the beeping on my Gen II, I forget to look in the backup camera when I am in reverse on my Gen III and just hear the single beep !

Or, if it's like any other mod we've done (speed sensors ~ MFD beeps, etc) all you need to do is find which wire leads to the beeper ;)
