The sales manager told me that there is 1 IV w/ Solar coming arriving in 10 weeks.. and there is 6 people ahead of me. That is a long time for me to wait for a car just for a Sunroof. I asked her to try and get it without the Solar.. She will let me know what she finds on Monday.

In the meantime. I am calling all of your recommendations and checking their websites. Not one is helpful. Where I see the IV with Nav on a website I call and they don't have it in stock. Each dealer is just listing them to get your attention. Shady in my opinion.

The wait sucks but it will be worth it in the end.

One salesperson at a dealer around here (Maryland) also told me that Toyota isn't making them with solar yet. When I told her they certainly are -- I've seen two already with my own eyes in this area -- she was genuinely shocked. Seems that they are being misinformed by their own management. I think I should go and give them a surprise visit.

Sadly, just can't trust dealers, even ones you've worked with in the past. They'll sell their mothers to make a few extra bucks on the Prius. I put a deposit on a Prius III w/sunroof in June, only to be called a month later and told they were refunding my deposit because they couldn't get my car. And this was dealer from whom I had purchased a 2005 Prius. Then I found the same car out of state and I offered to put a deposit on it. The salesman said ok, and he'd call me right back to get my credit card number, but I didn't hear from him for several hours, at which time he called -- you guessed it -- to say it sold for higher than I was going to pay.

One of the dealers I called in Maryland said they have an IV with Nav coming next week. I asked if it was sold and he said no.. I said I'm from New Jersey so please call me when it arrives and I will come get it that day. He said I can't guarantee anything. There was no way I'm giving a deposit to some random guy over the phone. So unfortunately that may have been a rare opportunity.

Maybe drive down this weekend and put a deposit down in person? Or try one of the PA dealerships, probably a little closer than MD.

I sure hope you find one. So frustrating!!!!!!

Well, you called him, so he wasn't random. If you give a credit card you're pretty much covered. Just make sure he faxes you the paperwork with the agreed upon price and your deposit in writing.

But I thought you wanted the solar? Are you giving up on that and just going for the nav?

Every dealer I call says they don't have a solar package and can't give a time period to get one. And since DCH told me 10 weeks for the next Solar coming in and I'm 6th in line for it that isn't good news.

Each dealer I call that has the IV w/ Nav listed doesn't have it in stock. I find that shady.

I think they list all of their inventory that they have coming in but they are already spoken for. But I guess there is a chance someone could back out if they have a deposit at multiple dealerships.

Definitely, but that is a one up that DCH has.. They don't do that to their customers. They only list what they have then and there.

Hi there, Here's been my experience so far. None of the NY dealers would be truthful with me. Only Smithtown Toyota told me it would be 6 months.

I went on the Toyota website and YOU CAN build a car with solar in the massachussetts and maine regions. I called Lia Toyota in Massachussetts and the dealer never even called me back. I just asked for a ballpark time they were expecting them.
I'm just about to give up and wait until Toyota decides to actually crank out these cars they are advertising to heavily for. It's very frustrating and not right.
    Goodluck in your search.

Toyota even paid to have a Prius in the latest Royal Pains episode plugging the solar power AC, yet they don't make enough for the demand.

    Hi Scott,
I just got a call from Cliff at Krause Toyota in Fogelsville PA that he has a solar IV, I'm not sure what color though. His number is (610)395-9858. Good Luck.

My dealer had one on allocation mid-July, but I opted not to take it and he traded it with another local dealer for one without the SR, as the other dealer had a customer who wanted the SR. I also saw another one on the lot with a SR that was sold. Of course, this was before the CFC frenzy! So sunroofs do exist in New York! They probably don't have any now, but if you want, call Romano Toyota in Syracuse. I had a good experience with them. Good luck...

    Thanks Linda,
I will give them a call on Monday!

    ----
I stopped in Sloane Toyota in Glenside, PA since I was there this weekend. They had a IV in Dark Gray arrive that morning.. While I was sitting there to put a deposit down on it ( I didn't have my trade in because my girlfriend was driving ) they sold it to someone else.

I live in CT and am moving to CA. I REALLY wanted to buy a Solar IV in CT and save the sales tax....or buy it in NY or NJ and save the sales tax via the credit for my trade. I have 3 dealers working really hard to find me one. Judi at Toyota Greenwich was outstanding but could not find one in the 6 week period that I had.

I found several in the SF Bay Area (posted by dealers on Craigslist). I called the one that had my 1st color choice (Blizzard with Misty Gray), gave them the deposit over the phone and they delivered the car to me at SFO when I landed. They were probably the easiest, most accommodating dealership that I have EVER worked with.

For those of you in CA---I have nothing but the most glowing recommendations for Steve Mantzouris at Dublin Toyota.

    PS- love my car!
