Any (unsold) III + SLRs out there?

So I have been on a waiting list for a 2010 since early February. I have been #1 on my dealer's waiting list for 2+ months now and have specified that I prefer a III + SLR in Winter Gray, Misty Gray or Blizzard Pearl exterior with a dark gray interior. The problem is that my dealer has not seen a single SLR package (III or IV) let alone one that meets my above color preferences.

With cash for clunkers happening now and the Prius being in such high demand it seems like there is even more of a shortage of all Prius's, but most importantly for me III + SLRs.

My question is: has anyone had any luck getting their hands on one of these lately?

Also: If there are any dealers out there who have one of these cars (that is not spoken for) on their lots, could you please let me know as I would be willing to travel in order to get the car that I want in a timely manor.

All others: am I being unreasonable? I feel like I have been patient. Why do I see so many people on this website who have been able to get at III + SLR yet my local dealer has not been allocated a single SLR package?

I think part of your problem is you live in the midwest. The number of Prius allocated is related to how many Prius's were sold last year. The dealers that sold more get a much better allocation. And some area's in the USA seemingly weren't allocated any solar Prius And any Prius with solar are rare now in any case.

Your best bet might be to go far beyond your area to see what is available. Like sunny Southern California.

Have you 'encouraged' your local dealer? I'd guess not. For example, if you told him a month ago, "I'm giving you 1st crack at it ... but if it feels like I'm being strung along, I may have to 'help' you by looking elsewhere". Money lost: a great motivator.
    good luck!

Kinda far but there was one very recently in Santa Maria (Calif). A Model IV, pearly white, solar roof, mats, bumper aplique (sp?), and wheel locks. Had like 130 miles on it though and they said they drove it from another dealer down in southern Calif.

Have you checked with the dealer Jabber (Jeff) in Chicago that is frequently on this site? He certainly seems to get a much bigger inventory and is certainly a lot closer to you than taking a trip to California (although I am sure Dianne could help you out as well!). I think SLR is just hard to find, perhaps even in Chicago, but you could at least increase your chances by getting on a list in a bigger market like Chicago. I know that I kept my eye on several dealers and many others have even put deposits down at more than one to increase their chances, and with the rarity of what you desire, it seems like you would need to boost your odds.

    Best of luck!!

Actually, I have. There are two dealerships within 10 miles of my place. In Feb, I put a $500 refundable deposit on a 2010 Prius at the one dealership of the two that had a waiting list. The other dealership just sells them as they come, first priority to first person who gives them the money.

About a week after the cars started showing up on the lots, I got moved up to #1 on the waiting list and told the dealer I wanted a III + SLR. About a month after that, still no car... so I contacted the other dealership and let them know what I was looking for. At that time I also told both dealships that I was shopping around and that the first salesperson to get me a III + SLR with my color preferences would get my business.

Now, after waiting, neither dealership seems to be particularly motivated to find me the car I want to buy. I was hoping that by telling them I was shopping around it would motivate them to get a car quickly... maybe there are just no III + SLRs in the area??? Is there something else you would recommend I tell the dealers I have been in contact with?

There was a white IV with sun roof listed in the inventory of a dealer in Naples, FL for over a week. I suspected it was left there to entice prospective buyers, and so stopped by today to check it out.

The salesman showed me the results of searching for a IV in Blizzard Pearl with sun roof in the SE Toyota Region: 0 cars. Certainly no sun roofs in their inventory, and none in white throughout the SE Toyota Region. I wasn't able to have him check other colors since I indicated at that point that I wasn't interested in paying any "dealer fees", and he just walked away.

Thanks for the heads up. However, I would prefer a III + SLR as opposed to a IV + SLR. By reading priuschat threads and asking around it seems like the former is even more rare than the latter.

Have others got this impression as well?

I walked into a nearby Toyota dealer 2 weeks ago and asked about a 2010 Prius III with NAV, leather seats, and classic silver color. The dealer made inquiries (he had no Prius on site that fit my requirements) and found a match in Indiana. I live in Ohio.

The deal included the "Cash for Clunkers" program, for which my clunker (a 1995 Buick Roadmaster sedan) brought in $4500.

My new Prius was purchased and is in my garage right now - thanks to my dealers efforts. Guess I was lucky to find one so quick. :)
