I just got my Prius V with AT and I cannot figure out if it actually supports NAVweather or not. I only find one post here that mentions that it does in passing but none of the Toyota documentation (and non of XM's website) mentions that is supported. Anyone knows for sure?

    Thanks

Yes, I know for sure that it does NOT support Satellite Weather. The next best things are weather channels on XM which will give you some information, or just simply looking out your windshield.;)

So that other post was mistaken. And looking out the windshield is so overrated, it just drives itself with LKA and DCC :D

    Thanks

When I log into my account on xmradio.com, then click on Radios & Subscriptions, there is a notation that the unit is capable of NAVWeather. But with the weather channel on the radio, or the weather button on my iPhone, or the instant weather by looking out the window, I'm not paying for another service.

Of course, I'm curious how eglmainz is so sure it's not supported when my XM account says it is.

EDIT: I called XM today, they said my radio was weather capable, they added the service, and .....nothing. I think there must have been an ID mixup that tagged it as weather capable, when it appears now that it isn't. I called them back to revert back to Traffic only ($3.99 a month, vs. Traffic and Weather at $7 a month, if the unit is weather capable).

Everything that I have heard about the Gen 3 Factory Nav (as I have in my Prius V Navi), indicates that it does not receive the weather MAP updates. Additionally, when I called and spoke with XM Customer Service when signing up, I confirmed with them that this radio does not have NavWeather.

Finally, as of today, I have not seen anyone else (from the many smart Prius owners here) post that they are getting Satellite Navigation Weather (again, we are not talking about tuning weather channels on the radio, but a visual representation of the weather, as you would get on the TV weather report).

I hope that I am wrong, and this is a hidden feature. I will be the second (as the first would be the person reporting it here) person to activate it on the Prius.

The Lexus Gen 6 Nav supports NavWeather. Toyota ones do not.

See today's EDIT to my post a couple up from here.

I'm going to find my other post on NAVWeather and update it as well.

So it doesn't work on the Prius as eglmainz and I said? Thanks for the clarification!

I could not get anything to work for NAVWeather, even though my account says the unit is capable, and XM Customer Service activated the feature and sent a refresh to the radio. After another call to them I just reverted to NAVTraffic only, but you can see from this screen grab that my account still says the unit is weather capable.

Yes but do you have a 2010 Lexus? The 2010 RX and the 2010 HSh will have XMNavWeather capability.

I have a '10 Prius IV with NAV. You even see I named the radio Prius in the screen grab.

<sigh> I'll rewrite what I said in the first reply

so therefore you've confirmed what we've been speculating. It will not work in the Prius but it will work on the RX or HSh (and another 2010 Lexus with the Gen 6 nav).

XM must've assumed that since Toyota owns Lexus, they'll use the same screen with the same functionality.

I know what you wrote, and I know you from Adam. Why come across with an attitude?

My XM account says one thing, you say another. Who would you believe? Anyway, just sharing my experience so others can benefit, rather than yada yada speculating.

Guess there's a misunderstanding lol. I'm not doubting what you posted. I said what you posted confirms what we speculated so what you posted is correct lol.

have recently spoke with someone at XM and i got everything cleared up.....the nav weather does work, but only in the major cities that they cover.... for instance... in NEW MExico, it will only be available in Alb. and in Texas, it's available in San Antonio and Houston..... so unless you are in a major citiy that they provide this service to, you will not be able to get any info on your screen. hope this helps a little :whistle::)

So you managed to get it to show up on your screen?? How? On the Lexus models, there's an actual Weather icon.

Did we get a definitive answer on this subject? I subscribed today to the combo navtraffic/navweather package (2010 Prius III with nav) and asked XM's customer service department for more information about the weather feature. They were unable to tell me exactly which markets were covered and directed me to their less-than-thorough webpage for any additional questions about the weather service.

Admittedly it's not raining here at the moment so there would be no radar data to show, but I'd like to know if the service is actually working. The traffic flow data appeared almost immediately after I subscribed, so I assume that the proper codes have been sent to my radio to enable the features.

Yes, We did get a definitive answer, and that is that the built-in Navigation Unit with XM does not support NavWeather. If you would like to get it in your vehicle, you would have to get a different system which supports this service installed in your car.

I think that within a few years, all new cars will support WiFi, so weather updates on your screen will become a basic thing in all cars.
