since I have not been able to get a car with the specific options,
what is the process to place an order?

I filled it out a web order form (build your own prius), and took it to a 2 dealers.

one dealer I went to , he wanted to sell me a car that was not what I really wanted, and he said the wait for placing an order can take 6 months.

another dealer said ordering is no longer being accepted since so many cars are being sold with the cash for clunkers incentive.

I feel like the dealer are reluctant to order a car.

Is there any way how to say to a dealer , I want to order this car , here is my $500 deposit.
and who to talk to ? any salesman or fleet manager or internet manager?

    Thanks,

Try Dianne Whittmire at Manhattan Beach Toyota. She has cars arriving daily but the C4C program is putting a toll on her inventory and possibly her willingness to give small discount due to the demand.

You can't technically order a Toyota--the dealer can preference your configuration, and hope for the best. I see you live in the bay area--I got my Prius at Toyota Sunnyvale, which is one of the largest Prius volume dealers. I had an excellent buying experience with them, and they sell below MSRP. I too live in Silicon Valley and checked with three different dealers and poked around at the online inventory listings of several others. I had something specific in mind and there was no sign of anything like it showing up at any of the dealers and they gave me no indications of if and when something might be coming in that was like what I had in mind. Then, I saw exactly what I wanted on Dianne's list. I emailed and, then, called and chatted with her, and quickly got comfortable with both dealing with her and the idea of flying to LA (Southwest) to pick up a new car and drive it back. She was delightful and informative to work with. I liked the transparency of her list of cars due soon and it did not stop there as she supplied as much data to me as she had throughout the process. If you have identified what you want, I highly recommend that you consider that option. She is apparently expert on arranging to acquire those cars that she does not have arriving and in a relatively expeditious fashion.
