Hello, I have a gen III with Nav, but this probably applies to all. One of the things I enjoy doing is listening through to the end of a song or talk show segment after reaching my parking spot...Is there a way to shut the hybrid system down while leaving the car in "Accessory" mode?

Shut off the car normally, leaving the radio on, and then, after taking your foot off of the brake, press the Start button twice. This gets you to ACC mode.

Thanks for the post. However, what I'm looking to do is leave the radio on and your solution shuts everything off and then turns on accessory mode. This causes a break in the song -ouch- or words to be missed from the talk show program. I guess I'm looking for the equivalent of a "normal" key system where one click back shuts off the engine (granted the engine is most likely already off in a Prius) while leaving the accessories on. A further click back turns everything off. Is there any easter egg that will allow the power button to cycle in reverse i.e. "ON"..."ACC"..."OFF"? Thanks!

i do what you want all the time. but the car is warmed up. when i park, the engine will shut off immediately if it hasnt done so already. when sitting there not moving and everything but the radio turned off, isnt that all you need?

unfortunately, what you suggest isnt possible.

easy way?... that's about as easy as it gets. the only other option might being to use a 12v cigarette lighter jump box.. that 12v circuit runs the radio and accessories. It's Way more complicated.. but keeps the radio on without glitches. you would have to be sure to unplug it or else your radio will say on and drain the jump box.

FYI, on other Toyota/Lexus Smart Key cars you can press the stop button while still in Drive and it does what you are after, however in the Prius it's just going to select Park, shut down, and not let you have uninterrupted music. I guess since there's a good likelihood your ICE won't be on, anyway, you can just sit there in Park and listen, only using a little battery.

Yep, that's what I figured, just hoped there was a secret button, also mildly worried about the hybrid system being powered up unecessarily.

Depending on your SOC, you could also just hit EV when you stop to ensure ICE won't start again!

Just picked up my 2010 IV this weekend (Winter Gray w gray interior). So far so good. Anyway what I noticed is that when I power off with the radio on, everything but the radio shuts down. The radio remains on for approx 3 second. If during this 3 second time, I press the power button once with my foot off the brake, I get what you are after, non-interupted audio after power-off. Hope this helps.

Well, when I hit power everything shuts down immediately...wish I had your setup. Do you have the nav package? I wonder if there's a "customization" for the accessory mode similar to the reverse beeping I could have the dealer reprogram.

Same for me here too, when I hit the power button EVERYTHING shuts off, radio included, I then have to wade thru to get the radio back on. Wish there was an easier way

Yeah, I wish the Prius had the feature that the OP was looking for. Seems like many GM and some (?) Ford cars have such as feature.
I posted about it at http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...es-other-cars-you-wish-2nd-gen-prius-had.html. I've not driven any Toyotas or Nissans that have this feature.
Unfortunately, it does draw a fair amount, at least on the 2nd gen. Per ScanGauge II, the 2nd gen pulls maybe ~1.2 to 2 amps when sitting in Park w/AC off. That would peg it at ~264 to 440 watts. Sitting in Park for awhile will pull down the HV battery's charge pretty significantly and then eventually the ICE will kick in.

Hopefully, someone's has found or will find the XGauge values to display the HV battery amp draw/charge on the 3rd gen.

I do not have nav. The only options I have are floor mats and wheel locks (dealer ripoff). The only mod on my 2010 is reverse backup beep set to one beep. Anyway when I stop with the radio on, I press the power button with my foot on the brake. The vehicle automatically goes into park and powers down, but the radio remains on. I then quickly press the power button with my foot off the brake and I'm in accessory mode. Is there something wrong (right) with my Prius??????:D

Could it be the shutting down with foot on the brake? I don't think I've ever tried it that way. I always either put it in park and take my foot off the brake and/or set the parking brake and then take my foot off the brake. I wonder if it's the keeping the foot on the brake that moves it back to ACC instead of off?

I tried it a couple of ways this evening upon returning home, and at power off everything shut down, regardless of foot on brake or not. I could not find a way to go from Ready to Accessory without interrupting the audio play.

You have to press the power button immediately after power off, without your foot on the brake. The radio (at least on mine) has a slight delay before powering off. You have to press the power button once, without your foot on the brake, during this slight delay. You are then in ACC without radio interruption.

ya know, i would like it too, i am sure i would use it on occasion, but if it requires going back to a key, then forget it. its not that big a deal. the minimal current draw used when in ready mode is something i am more than willing to put up with especially if only to finish the last 2 minutes of a song

I guess I was too slow to press the power button again. I'll try it again just for grins when I head out later today.

Doesn't work for me with nav no matter how quickly I do it...the second I press the power button the nav system shuts down. It should be an easy mod though, since power remains to the windows, cabin lights, and headlights for a short period after shutting off.
