I'd worry (a little) that the squirrels might try to go or nest under the hood of your Prius. This could be a problem (1) if a squirrel were to die in there somewhere -- it could get smelly or (2) if a squirrel were to hang out under there, it would seem to be only a matter of time before it chews up some wires, wire harnesses, hoses, etc.

I live in the squirrel capital of the world. I think there are more squirrels per square foot in my Manhattan apartment complex (Stuyvesant Town) than there are in the woods. I hang a big tea ball in the engine compartment of my Prius, and refill the tea ball periodically with old fashioned moth balls to repel squirrels and other rodents.

    * * * * * * *

In other news, I threw out my back yesterday and can barely walk.

This was the first time that I threw out my back when I wasn't lifting something heavy like an air conditioner or TV. In fact, all I was doing was leaning forward a little to water a house plant. And within no more than 5 degrees of leaning, the back went crazy.

You should have kept it, you may have been able to get it fixed. I'm not surprised that you can't walk, with no back and all.

Yesterday 2 ducks had sex in my swimming pool. I didn't know whether to shoo them away or take out a bottle of champagne and a couple of glasses. It seemed the situation needed a little romance put into it.

Day 4 of the Kookie Diet. Dreading Week #4 to come...

What could possibly be more boring than the same cookies over & over?

I might have to go stir up the hornet nest with the PHEV flamewar shillers to distract myself...

Yeah, did you hear about the guy who's Prius was stinking for 2 years before he discovered a dead snake wrapped around the engine?

*Ouch* about your back. I know that happened to me once for apparently no reason at all (and I don't usually have back problems -- touch wood). Hope it's feeling better today.

Maybe Boo can pick up a new one at IKEA. Sure he'll have to assemble it himself but it's a lot cheaper than going to a designer back store...

Ducks are kinky bastards. They'll do it anywhere. I've heard reports of wild duck orgies in our local park here.

Boo throwing out his back (first pitch of the season?).
    Squirrels.
    Snakes.

My life is boring. Truly. Though I just got roped into doing two shifts at the county fair working the GH Dems Burger Booth.

That sounds potentially interesting -- a vegan working a burger booth.

WooHoo - flamewar stress surely contributed to my losing 5 pounds in my first week with the Kookie Diet (smart for life)

In other news...my Mother-in-law passed away yesterday, so all day tomorrow is the sit-in with the relatives.

I have boring in laws...I married the jewel of the bunch :p

Wow, tiring weekend with the funeral and all. To all those that lost a parent, I sympathize.

    Some more boring news:

I delivered the lien release on my trade-in and the check from my credit union to the dealer. They had my old 2006 Prius on the used car lot and were asking $18,788 for it (after trying to get out of giving me $15,000 trade-in value).

My HDTV broke so I bought a new, larger one at Best Buy, which was having a tax-free sale in Virginia. So I saved $30. They didn't have the model and size that I was considering on display and the salesman kept coming back to tell me they don't have it. After I showed him the printout I had made of the particular model, he checked again and found it. It's good to do research ahead of time.

    It has been very hot.

I got my 2010 IKEA catalog in the mail today.

The front cover proclaims "NEW LOWER PRICES, SAME GREAT QUALITY."

This thread isn't nearly as boring as the What Tires Did You Get thread. Now, that's boring!

I happen to really like IKEA. When we remodeled our house, we still had three teenagers (boys) living at home. We needed cheap, fairly durable, replaceable-when-they-leave-home furniture, and that's what we got. Sturdy beds for them to sleep on - a couple of small couches that I didn't get upset when they climbed over the backs or danced on the arms - a dining table that has a leaf and wouldn't fall over when they were wrestling on it.
We still have the table (the chairs have been replaced), the better bookshelves, the sideboard - the mattresses have held up well, too.
The items that saw the most action ended up being replaced, as planned... with no blood and few tears shed over them!
If you eat animal products, you really can't find better Swedish meatballs anywhere than IKEA's cafeteria. They also have a vegetarian lasagna (same quality as anywhere, really). Their vegan offerings are nearly none, however. :(

Agreed -- the IKEA cafeteria is a really good deal.

I like their stuff, but most of it breaks pretty soon. I woudn't call it durable. I've had lamps from their that short out and llittle chest of draws that don't have any balance.

Oh, I love IKEA. I go there a lot.

Most of their stuff is very durable. Drawers are usually the weakest link of knock-down furniture. But I've had pretty good luck with IKEA drawers. Out of the 17 individual IKEA non-kitchen drawers (their kitchen drawers are more durable) I currently have, I've had a problem with only 2 of them (the bottom is separating from the sides).

And a lot of their stuff is attractive too. Interior designers selectively use IKEA pieces all the time when appropriate. My bedrooms are furnished almost exclusively with IKEA furniture. And I've used an IKEA table as my dining table for years. Right now, I have a $59 IKEA dining table sandwiched in between a $590 table lamp on top and a $5,900 antique rug below.

I always have the Swedish meatballs when I go to IKEA. But I usually get the kids size. I think it's something like $1.99 for a small plate of meatballs and potatos, plus a small drink cup with unlimited refills.
