    I was wondering what your answer was too. I have been driving what I think is conservatively except for highway travel. Drive to work is half highway and half city. I am at 44-45 which makes me think I am not doing something right. I live along the Gulf Coast which is flat. I am a little over a half tank at 290 miles. I was hoping to top 500 before filling up. I will be in the mid 400s and that is cool in itself.

    Oh yea...I joined the collective on Monday. This is way cool and that darn Kool-aid tastes really good.

    I think this hot humid weather really saps the A/C and the batteries, forcing the engine to run more, even if you keep the temp set relatively high. Personally, I do better on the highway than in city driving, since most of my driving around town is short trip stop and go.

    Sometimes it is the little things: A/C, acceleration, amount of braking, etc. I wouldn't be too concerned yet. You should see better MPG as time goes on. I also wanted to get 500 miles on first tank, but it didnt happen. But I expect 500 on second tank.

    You can never tell how much the dealer put in the first tank even if they say they filled it. In my case the gauge showed all ten pips but the first one disappeared in only 9 miles. :eek:Having owned a 2006 Prius I knew that couldn't be. I ran off about 2/3 of that tank and filled it myself. Admittedly I topped off this tank more than I normally would. The first pip didn't disappear until right at 150 miles. Quite a difference. Second one disappeared at 190 miles. I am now at 203 miles and the distance to empty is showing 402. MPG is sitting on 52.4. Gotta love it.

    :tea: Welcome and congratulations.

    You will find your mileage depends on how you drive.
    Obviously hotrodding in eco or power mode is going to drop mpg.
    Jack Rabbit starts are going to drop mpg. But the cool thing is the car will still get in the mid to high 40's driving this way.

    Where you drive, will effect mileage. Obviously if you are driving up and down mountains, you won't see as good of mileage as if you were driving around the flat Jersey Shore area. Going up long mountain roads really sucks the mpg, but going down the other side really helps, lol.

    Hot weather and running AC seems to pull my MPG down. The battery temps can effect how efficiently they charge. Hot batteries don't work as well cool batteries. I have yet to see how very cold weather plays in here, but if it is like our last Hybrid, Honda Civic, best mpg was on moderate days when no AC or heater was running.
    You will still be getting way better mileage than a regular car.

    Do you sit in the car for hours with the AC on reading your manual & listening to music, learning how everything works? :p {I have, guilty) That can drop the mpg, not so much the radio, but the engine has to kick on to charge the battery to keep the Air Conditioner working.

    You will find a range of times you may get over 60 mpg on some trips and 48 mpg on others. I have driven trips over a hundred miles at speeds between 55 to 70mph from Western PA to Eastern PA and gotten 62 mpg, do the trip the other way and it is 49-50 mpg.

    Keep up with the maint. Oil changes and all required stuff. Make sure tires are properly inflated. And there is the driver break in time, learning how to drive the car most efficiently. Allow the car to make use of kinetic energy, if you see the red light ahead don't floor the car to run up just to slam on the breaks and stop. Allow the car to coast up to the stops using the energy it already has, balance this with not annoying other drivers around you.

    When starting out, don't floor it, allow the car to start off smoothly, again balance this with not annoying other drivers. If you must accelerate faster, once up to speed, back off on the pedal and see the mpg jump up then gently press the gas pedal to maintain speed while keeping good mpg. You will get better the more you drive.

    You will find ten minutes in need for speed mode can really drop you from 60 mpg to 51 mpg, so you have to decide was paying a few pennies more worth it. lol. Worst case you are still doing very well. :rockon:

    Congrats! I bought my 2010 Prius Model III on July 1. Been averaging 55+ for the 3900 miles I and my wife have driven. We both love it. We too are part of the collective

    Congrats! Maybe someday but still calculating all the data(cost of ownership etc.) and looking here.

    One thing this C4C has done for toyota is made them very rich. All four dealers I have passed have very empty lots where as other dealers have full lots. Almost makes me think they are going out of business but then I remember its the C4C program.
