What's the benefit of having using these tie-downs near the hatch vs the existing metal tied-downs on the floor?

My Prius V came with the net but it was tied to 4 loops in the floor, 2 of them are the same ones in the posted pictures towards the very rear and the other 2 are closer to the rear seat back and there is no place to hook it vertical.

I got a net to strap down a tire in the cargo area, since it won't fit in the cargo hold where the donut spare is if you have a flat. I'd bet that's what yours is, and not the accessory cargo net.

Not really, I also got somekind of a strap to tie down a spare, it came in addition to the cargo net. The cargo net that I got is the same one in the pictures, mounted to 2 of the 4 points in the pictures posted. If you want to I can get a picture for it.

I can see where you could use that net hooked to all 4 floor hooks. So you don't have any upper hooks at the rear of the hatch, I presume?

WHen I picked my car up from the dealer, it looked kind of odd to me when I didn't find the hooks to mounted vertical. When I asked the service guy who was doing the inspection for the car, he told me that earlier, Toyota used to have hooks where you can mount the net but lately, the cargo net option comes like this with 4 hooks on the floor.

Toyota makes two different cargo nets for the 2010 Prius. The one you are describing is the horizontal cargo net. It is simply a net which attaches to the four tie downs already installed in the Prius.

The other cargo net is the vertical net. It is actually two pieces of netting with a space in between to hold items. This net attaches to the two tie downs near the back of the cargo area and two tie downs on the sides, which are installed as part of the cargo net accessory.

The different sales regions are offering either one or the other cargo net. For example, in the region controlled by Gulf States Toyota (GST), they are only selling the horizontal cargo net.

Also, unless there is some new news about it, Toyota has temporarily stopped selling the vertical cargo net since their installation procedure was causing the side panels of the cargo area to separate from the pressure of a loaded cargo net.

I had the vertical cargo net in my 2004 Prius, which I used when I shopped at Costco. I would put bottles of milk and other small items into the net to keep them from rolling all over the cargo area. I miss this feature. So far, I haven't figured out how to install the appropriate tie-downs to hold the top of the net (which I kept).

Here in the Mid-Atlantic region they have the vertical net, which I guess is still on a sales hold until the panel separation issue is resolved. I have the all weather mats, so nothing slides around in my cargo area, even without a net.

I did not want the cargo net but after looking in 3 states for a blue III, had to take the "preferred assessory package" which was a first aid kit and cargo net for $80 (in addition to carpet matts). Dealer gave me set of 5 AW matts at N/C to offset. So I am glad I tossed the net in a drawer and have not yet used!

Same story-went to the dealer on my lunch break to get the cargo net "fixed" and they wouldn't touch it.

We picked up our Prius IV on Saturday but the dealer told us the cargo net was on "back order" and we should get it in a few weeks. They did not mention anything about the attachment problems mentioned in this forum. We love the car, but we are now starting to wonder if we can trust Toyota.

What you got is called a 'spyder net' and is about half the cost of the cargo net, I got the same thing. I later ordered a cargo net just before they suspended the sales of them. I am still waiting for a fix from toyota.

Sure seems to take a long time for them to figure out a fix for such a small item.

I'm glad I ran across this thread because I was about to pick one up at the dealer. I'm very impressed with Toyota's quick action on this problem. Most companies would keep selling it for the money and do a quick fix (longer screw) if needed to keep the customer happy.

Are you serious? The Gen III has multiple computers, thousands of parts that fit perfectly and, well, my Gen II before I traded it, never needed any repairs (30k miles).

If the only thing that isn't perfect is the cargo net, that's pretty good. I ordered the net when I picked up my car (mid July) and it is still on backorder. The dealer said that there is an ETA of late August for the redesigned net.

I've been waiting on an official Toyota resolution on this for some time (since May), but I'm in nylion's camp: If this is the worst thing that's happened, then things are pretty good overall.

I know that there is a simple resolution, and my dealer will make the correction when I make the appointment. The fix is based on the dealer's service manager's discussions with the service manager at HTMLSpinnr's dealer.

For those who haven't picked up a cargo net: Just be patient and wait for a cargo net that will be sold with no issues. I think Toyota is quite embarassed by this event (with reason), and the company will not settle for any type of quick fix sent in a follow-up package.

Will they replace those that have the net as an option?

They have resolved the issue for new sales - and I'm guessing the same 'fix' can be obtained for older Gen IIIs. I picked up my Gen III yesterday, and there is a *new* plastic side molding - with no hole for the mount  Hence, the vertical net is no longer an option.

I guess if you complain loud enough, they can remove the hooks for you too (just replacing the plastic panel with the hook to one without).

Kinda wish I had the hook, then I could've done the 'fish the new bolt' mod suggested in a separate thread....

    TTFN!
