I took a short drive (600 miles each way) to see Steve Woodruff at Autobeyours in Scottsburg Indiana. Thanks to Jud (Bestmapman) for letting me crash at his place.

My main reason for the visit was so Steve could install this new feature.

But I figured as long as I was there, I would have some preventative maintenance done. Up to now, all I have done was change engine oil and filters. Oh, and I changed the transaxle oil at 130k.

Steve and his guys swapped out the inverter pump, water pump, PCV valve, water pump belt and plugs. Brakes are still original.

Coolant at 180k still clear and bright pink. The sludge on the bottom of the bucket was there to begin with. It didn't come out of the cooling system.

Plugs at 180k. Gap is 0.039"

50k miles on this set of tires. Pressure is at 55 psi. Should be good for another 20k or so.

I passed on the super-duper HID upgrade.

Prii in various states of repair.

    Prius innards.

Thanks Steve! I learned a lot. While I was there, Steve sold a loaded 2008, even before the car had been rebuilt. He sold 5 last week. He mentioned that he has bought 133 damaged Prii. Did I mention that he has lots of parts laying around?

I hit 180k on the way home. As you can tell, I like to be well informed.

Changed the oil when I got home. Mobil 1 0W-20 in at 155k, out at 180k. I've seen worse. New oil on the left, dirty oil on the right:)

Old oil is going to Blackstone Labs to get tested, including TBN.

Those plugs were ready to come out.

Did you also clean the TB and the MAF? Depending on your climate, that could be needed, or not. On the Gen1, a dirty TB caused sticking

When you changed your cvt fluid, how did the old fluid look?

The Throttle body didn't need cleaning. We did not look at the MAF. The cvt fluid was cloudy, but not bad at all. Nothing was on the magnetic plug.

I could just see a passenger pushing the button before asking what it was for. I think the label is a sufficient deterrent

Any reason why you are using steel wheels? Is your stock alloy rims installed with snow tires or something?

That's the problem with new tyres. Takes 50k miles to get them road ready. :D

I bought the steel wheels (from a corolla) when I lived in Pittsburgh. I put a new set of integretys on them for the winter so I could use the more worn set in the summer. Now in NC it doesn't matter. I have a new set of Intergity's on the alumimun wheels waiting for the current set to wear out. BTW, the steel wheels weigh 4lbs more per wheel, 16 more pounds total.

Thanks, it is good to know that the stock alloy wheels are 4lbs lighter. Not to mention it looks better as well.

How is the 25k miles extended oil change going? Do you do this all year round?

The last two changes were at 25k about 8 months apart, so yes, it's year round. The two before that were at 20k. After I see the lab results, I will decide to increase or decrease the frequency.

Just put on slightly used tires purchased from a PC member about 18 months ago. Thought I would take a picture of the original brake pads and rotors.

It doesn't look like the pads are half way yet. At this rate, it should last 400k miles.

Brake corossion issues may have to be dealt with before the friction pads are finished. For that matter the disks may rust internally before their thickness fails spec.

    Road salt.

If brake disks can look like that w/o road salt, it would be an interesting and worthwhile observation.
