Nice video. Looks great in Full Screen.

    Value$ (including MPG) : _____________ Toyota
    GPS computer: _____________________ Toyota
Voice command and "training" of driver: _ Honda
Acceleration and "sport mode": ________ Honda (even though he did say the Prius had "better ride quality")
    Exterior Looks: ______________________ It's a tie.

--At this point, it is a tie-----so, now the editors decide by their own opinion----
    Editor 1: Prius
    Editor 2: Insight
Editor 3: Everything is tied up until...he says "Insight"

Whoa! I have a major criticism of their test! The points are not weighted! The drive/handling of the car, and the value$ (including MPG) gets the same number of points as the "voice command" of the navigation system. I think the $value and the handling/MPG are a heck of a lot more important than the "voice command" of the navigation system!!! And "ride quality" is not important enough to warrant it's own points???

Acceleration? I find it hard to believe they did a car-to-car drag race.

He was talking about shifting. He says about the Insight "You press the pedal on the right, and things happen," and about the Prius: "The Prius annoyed us more than once with it's hesitance to get up and out of it's own way. It has the power, but it's programming seems to keep it in a reserved mode. Some obsessive attempt to drive lean." (the tone of his voice is very critical and negative toward this aspect of the Prius)

I suspect he did not have it in sport/power mode/ In power, I find the car respectable.

You're probably right. I think if we generalize and take the average reporter...it might be predictable that he didn't know how to operate the car properly.

Note to EVERYONE...think twice before beginning the title of a thread with "OMG." There's nothing wrong with the phrase, but it grabs people's eyes like a magnet. It should be reserved for topics that really are amazing, like "OMG, GenIV Prius Photos Leaked!" :)

I test drove an Insight when I was looking at a new car. It didn't hold a candle to the Prius. Felt cheap, crummy, etc. The Prius felt incredibly smooth and I enjoyed the ride. It's not like we are all sitting here with a Prius because we couldn't afford an Insight! (cheapest Prius is more expensive than most expensive Insight!)

Perhaps he prefers the sound of an engine thrashing itself...but not going any faster (Insight?)

I remember the prius out-accelerating the insight.......all day long.

performance - straight to the prius!

    Little more than entertainment ...

Ooops, they forgot to mention one needs to be under 5'x" and 1X0 lbs to fit in the Insight back seat.

And whadya know, the Prius is outselling the Insight like what, 10 to 1?

Shawn brings up a very good point: many people confuse "noise and bluster" with "performance".

I really have to smile :) when I drive my G2, as I actually think that the car is quite "peppy": I can merge onto a fairly steep hill on the expressway, and easily pass all the slow pokes that are merging in front of me. (I just love doing that to the so-called "sports cars", while they "roar" along trying to get up to speed. Same goes for the SUVs). Because the Prius doesn't make a lot of noise while accelerating, one could get the impression that it's not going fast. But a glance at the speedometer will tell you otherwise.

I don't even have to "floor" the Prius, just moderately push the pedal to get good acceleration. Of course, if the traction battery is depleted, you don't get very good acceleration. But this is usually the exception, not the norm.

I imagine that the G3 would be even better in this regard due to the increased horsepower, especially in Power mode.

I remember thinking that the worse thing about the Insight looking this much like the Prius (when I saw photos like a year ago) was that I knew people would mistankenly do side by side comparisons.

But I feel like any intelligent person who has half a clue about these two cars would never make this comparison because it's obvious that they are too different to compare. If you're an avid non-enthusiast then yeah, they "look just alike"

The other day, there was a Harley rider with his chick weaving through traffic. But I pulled along side them at the next light. When it changed, he was 'surprised.' <GRINS>

What a joke! I test drove the insight as well as compared the cargo area to the Prius. I could not believe the Insight used styrofoam in their spare tire compartment. That was just one of the deal breakers for my hard earned money.

In May while I was waiting for my 2010 to arrive I had some time to kill on a weekend and I was driving by a Honda dealer. So I decided to go in and test drive an Insight. Felt a bit strange driving up in a 2004 Prius and parking it, but a salesman did come up and ask to help me (he must have thought I was lost...and I swear I actually saw the cartoon thought bubble over his head and it said, "Uh, sir the Toyota dealer is down the street 3 blocks.")

Anyway I said I need a new car right away (my 2001 just loaned to child in college) and I'm trying to decide between a 2010 Prius and an Insight, but I was just at the Toyota dealer and they don't have any, can I drive an Insight. Anyway I did the test drive and a lot about the car seemed to be a downgrade, but there were a few nice (minor) differences.

Even though the salesman copied my drivers license and asked for a phone number they never followed up.

The general public who votes with their wallet totally disagrees with these editors. The Prius sales (12,998)are 6x what the Insight (2084) is in July

Wow, did the guys at CNET ever miss the boat.... There is one more major category to compare the two vehicles - Fuel Economy. Both cars are advertised as being very fuel efficient. In this area, the Prius wins hands-down.

Not according to the posts on an Insight forum I was reading today. According to some posters there the Insight is at least the equal to the Prius in MPG and often exceeds it. In fact they were recommending that Prius owners should start a class action lawsuit against Toyota because the Prius mileage is so far below the EPA rating.

Ha ha ha, you guys kill me. Of course this is what I love about being neutral on the two cars right now, being able to appreciate the good and bad in either one. I honestly see no reason for so much animosity between the two (cars followers) because there are clear advantages in both. Anyone who argues this is stupid.

As a matter of FACT: either car could get extremely good mileage or not! It's all dependant on the driver and how much they want to get good gas mileage. Anyone who argues with this is... well stupid. It's a fact that someone COULD get way better fuel economy in an Insight than some random person did in their Prius, assuming the Prius driver just didn't give a ****.

At the root of it all Insight owners know, deep down, that the Prius and the Hybrid Synergy Drive system are superior to the IMA. But can you blame them for trying? They've invested about 20,000 + dollars in a hybrid car so they're pretty commited! Then again I guess they'll hate on you Prius guys sometimes and some of you will just perpetuate the cycle by lashing out at them too as if it weren't enough that the Prius is the clear winner. I mean it makes sense for you to put fellow hybrid owners down huh?
