Doesn't Toyota pay the dealer to prep the car? Seems to me this should be included. Perhaps dealers & owners should be pointing out to Toyota that the car isn't as well designed as they think it is.

$22k - not! How about $32k+ & I'm going to be charged for something I asked for before the car was delivered, but they couldn't be bothered doing? Now how is that good customer relations?

Jim, toyota doesn't pay us to prep the car directly.

dsviv, that is why I said to argue over $50 is assinine.

So this means that if I spent $32,500 with taxes, I should get a $75 customization free? LOL

Do we have a list in one posting (not a full thread) which mentions all the Dealer and (do it yourself) changes?

I would like to come visit you soon Jeff, and get these all done, when I come in for my 10,000 mile oil change/rotation, which is probably a few weeks away as I approach 9,000 miles.

Went in Monday and they gotter done (reverse to one beep). The manager said ah 45 to 60 mins but he was back in 15. Said it was easy (their first). All the fuss over essentally nothing. I think many of them are balking because they really don't know what little is really involved.

Praise the Lord... no more beeping in reverse!!!

I want to thanks the members of this site/thread for the wonderful info on the customization. We printed up the 6-2 section of the owners manual and faxed over the changes we wanted and the changes were done free of charge prior to our arrival. I would have never thought about this prior to reading this information.

    THANK YOU

Yeah, but you don't get to fully appreciate the reverse beep being changed to one if you haven't had a few weeks of the continuous beeping :)

OK, here are the settings I had my dealer change.

    1) OM page 579: Operation Signals (Buzzer) to OFF
    2) OM page 580: Timer for Auto Door Lock to OFF
    3) OM page 580: Operation Signals (Buzzer) to OFF
    4) OM page 580: Operational Signals (Buzzer Vol.) to OFF
    5) OM page 581: Driver's Door Unlock to ON
    6) OM page 581: Timer for Headlights Auto OFF to 30 seconds
    7) OM page 584: Reverse Buzzer to Beep Once
    8) OM page 584: Selt Belt Buzzer to OFF

As I mentioned in my earlier post, I had to coax the sales manager into making all of these changes for free. They never bulked at the selt belt or reverse changes like I've read some dealers are doing. I think that's ridiculous. Unless it's illegal, they have no right to question the owner's decision.

I think Toyota's corporate office ought to have a standard policy regarding how dealers charge to make changes to the customizable settings. They should make all the changes that you want for free the first time. And then charge an appropriate labor rate (1-hour max.) to make any changes thereafter.

    Regards - Bambam

30 seconds is default. Did you change it to 0, 60 or 90 seconds?

According to my Owner's Manual, 60-seconds is the default time. See last item on page 581.

Very interesting. My owner's manual (as well as the online Section 6-2. Customization pdf) has 30 seconds as default for time elapsed before headlights automatically turn off after doors and it's on page 589. The only setting with 60 seconds as default is time elapsed before automatic door lock function is activated if door is not opened after being unlocked.

Does anyone know if there are different owner's manuals for the 2010 depending on what model and/or features you have?

To my major disappointment, the dealer I bought mine from jacked me up for $50 to make the customizations I requested and -- this frosts my chops most -- would not / did not turn off the accursed seat belt buzzer.

I think it is completely ludicrous that my car was being held hostage. I asked for specific settings, and did not get the ones I asked for. But I had to pay the "full fee" anyway, to get my car back. This is insanity, and I lay the blame fully at the feet of the Sales department.

When I took delivery (in August) it was late, and the service department was closed. "No problem," they told me; "just bring it back and we'll set it whatever which way you prefer."

How short their memory. When I took it back yesterday, the service department insisted they needed to get paid. I insisted the sales department owed me. The sales department acted like they didn't know me from a hobo.

I do like my service department and service manager (I've dealt with them before, and will continue to) but I will tell anyone who will listen: Do Not Buy A Car From Priority Toyota in Colonial Heights VA! Once your check has cleared, they never knew you.

Like someone else mentioned, I knew I didn't want the reverse beep and requested that it be turned off prior to delivery. This was done without question or the mention of a charge. Classic Toyota in Waukegan, IL.

My OM also lists 30-sec default, also on page 589, not 581.

    I have this OM:
    Publication No. OM47668U
    Part No. 01999-47668
    Printed in Japan 01-0907-00 C

Probably the "U" indicates USA version.
The "C" has a square box around it.
The 2009 © (copyright) is inside the front cover.

It appears that this manual is for all USA models, except
the Prius-I model. It also has some Canadian information.
