Toyota should do one up and use fingerprint-resistant oleophobic screens (found in the new iPhone 3GS). However, if Lexus is any indication, they will do away with touchscreen and introduce mouse-based remote touch in future model years.

I don't have a nav package, what are the dimensions of the screen?

I got an automated response back from Zagg saying they might ask me to ship my "unit" in (in exchange for a free protector) if demand was high enough that they decided to make one.

I'm heading out of town, but thought I'd leave this info for you guys. I've been using products from BestSkinsEver.com for a few years on my iPods and cell phones. They make skins out of the same material (or, at least it was the same material two years ago) that Zagg Invisible Shields are made of (3M Scotchcal), but their products are much cheaper.

Anyway, they offer a DIY skin that's just a 9"x3.75" rectangle you can cut to your own dimensions for only $7. Not sure if 3.75" will cover the screen, though.

The 2010 nav screen is 7" wide and just short of 3.5" high so this should work. I think I'll give it a try.

    Thanks for your post.

I just try to use the steering wheel/voice control as much as possible.
When I do need to touch the screen, I try use my nail instead of my fingertip.
I also keep a little microfiber towel in the glove box, for when it eventually gets the inevitable smudge on it. I don't find it to be much of a problem.

Ordered the DIY skin. Price was right and it came in just a few days. Easy to cut and apply. I'm happy with the results and the price.

How smooth is it...I've had my share of screen protectors since I got my Palm III, and they've always been hit or miss in terms of being 'sticky' and not smooth, bubbling, glare, etc.

How is it on glare and reflection?
Some "skins" protect but have huge reflections, much greater than the original screen.
    Thanks

Very smooth if you take the time to work out the bubbles with a credit card as instructed. It has that rubbery feel to it like the Zagg screen protectors do but does not feel sticky. Once it has dried you don't notice it at all when the nav screen is lit.

IMO the glare is less than the original screen. When the screen is lit you don't even notice the protector. It also does not show finger smudges as much as the original screen which is what I was looking for.

Edit: This weekend I was parked so that full sunlight was on the protector and I did notice finger smudges. Not as bad a the original screen but still there. Guess I'll have to start washing my hands better.

Glad that worked for you, HeyVern. For info, most of the "rubbery" feel should go away in a week or so.

For others, their skins aren't what you'd call "anti-glare", but as HeyVern mentioned, there is less glare/reflection than a bare surface.

As far as smoothness goes, it should be smooth to the touch (and as I mentioned, it gets "smoother/harder" after a week or so), but if you look at the skin at the right angle and lighting conditions, you'll see (but won't feel) what's usually called an "orange peel" effect. This effect is not noticeable when whatever you're covering is illuminated, and since the nav screen isn't something that you'll be twisting and turning like a phone or iPod (let's hope :)), you may never notice it.

Also, don't worry about babying it when cleaning. I've used Windex, Formula 409, and Dawn on my skins with no adverse effects.
