    I don't understand your statement.

The side molding in the car never had a hole to mount the hook for the cargo net. The cargo net came with a hook which was installed by the port (or the dealer), apparently by drilling a hole through the molding. The problem was that they only drilled through the outer layer of molding, which couldn't stand the pressure of the net.

That is why I don't understand what you are saying. I haven't seen any notice from Toyota that they have stopped producing the vertical cargo net - only that they have temporarily stopped selling them until they resolve the issue of how to mount it.

OIC - I thought it was stock (the hook) - did not know you had to drill and attach... As such it would appear as though my post is pointless.......

    Pointless? Hardly!

Most likely there are plenty of people who shared your opinion/assumption about the standard panels. Glad to have your post in this discussion.

So, um, I paid for the port to drill holes in my side panels, insert hooks and provide a cargo net that is now unusable and for which Toyota is not providing a fix. Just want to be sure I understand.

I suspect they will, eventually, provide a fix.

I brought my Prius in this morning for its first oil change at 3000 miles. I also asked them to correct the cargo net attachment problem where the side panels are pulling away.
I received the car back with the same attachments...only tightened a bit, but no repair to prevent the panels from pulling away.
I spoke to the service manager and he said he "wasn't aware of the problem" and showed me that there were no bulletins out for anything dealing with the cargo net.
His solution was for me not to use the cargo net. When I said that I paid for it and want to use it he asked me, "really, how important is it." That was not the issue. I don't have use of it because of Toyota's incorrect installation.
Just now I don't have a very warm feeling towards Toyota.

I finally (last Saturday) had a car roll in with a preferred accessory package. In my clunkers fog, it hadn't dawned on me that this car was dropping with a Z1 package. I opened the hatch and realized there was a cargo net laying there on the rear deck and saw the new hooks and where they were. Interesting fix. It works!

The bolts to the immediate left and right when you open the hatch now have black metal hook screwed into them, and they hold the rope hooks for the net. I'd imagine there is no official "fix" mentioned to anyone yet. But, there will be. The PORT facilities will receive the corrected parts and THEN the service folks will hear soon. Just log your complaint if you have one. But -- not on a message board only. You need to have the car at the shop and log the issue.

Doesn't that interfere with the tonneau cover?

I kept the cargo net from my 2004 Prius and was thinking about how to attach it. I thought of replacing those bolts with eye bolts for the cargo net. However, a friend of mine looked at it and said it would interfere with the holder for the end of the tonneau cover.

How does this new hook work? Is it low enough that the tonneau cover can still be closed, especially if the cargo net is in use?

Could you possibly upload a picture showing this new attachment for the cargo net?

I can confirm what Dianne is saying. I picked up my 2010 last night and it had the new hooks on it...and it is as solid as can be. I just finished working a 16 hour shift and have to return to work in 6 hours, so I will try to post a picture tomorrow night.

My car was delivered 9 days ago and it has the new style hooks, they seem strong and don't interfere with the tonneau cover at all.

Sorry jay_man_2 my camera is loaned out and my cell phone is to old to have a camera. I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow.

And I'm sorry folks -- I'm pulling another 16-hour work day with another in store tomorrow. Will post a pic Saturday unless someone else beats me to it...

Took mine in for 5K service on Monday and mentioned the cargo net problem and they had no fix.

Ok, as promised, here are some pics! This Prius arrived at the dealership on August 22nd with the fix already in place. I took delivery on August 25th.

The hooks work extremely well and the bolt is very solid. There is also no interference with the tonneau cover -- it opens and closes with ease.

    Hope this helps,
    Bryan

Thanks for the pics, Bryan. Looks like they simply threaded an eye hook type of hanger onto the bolt that was already there as a solution. I'm supposed to take delivery either tomorrow or Tuesday, so it will be interesting to see if my car has the same "solution".

Looks like a great solution. Now, for those of us with the original hook placement, does Toyota plan to replace the entire plastic trim piece to get rid of the misplaced hole?
