Has anyone replaced their 2010 Prius horn yet? If so, and you did it yourself, how easy was it to do? And where did you get your replacement from?
    Thanks!

Do a quick search on "horn", and you will get plenty of info...

I would add to this thread though - I also want to swap out the horn - but I'm not paying $100 for a cheap horn. I know I've swapped horns for years - it's just hard finding the right one and tone.

I'd love to get a stock/aftermarket early 70's Chevy sound... No need for crazy loud - Maybe I'll get motivated this week...

I did a "quick search on horn" and not a lot showed up. Care to enlighten us?

Yes - I'm sorry for the lack of info... I clicked on the little box that says search (Google custom search) - this is located at the top right of the page you are looking at. I entered the word "horn" (no quotes - though they really won't hurt your search), and found the following links:

http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...ons/64808-side-turn-signals-upgrade-horn.html - you will need to scroll down approximately 1/2 way to post number six. Here is a nice outline of the job, including pictures.
http://priuschat.com/forums/attachm...n-signals-upgrade-horn-signallight7_6-001.jpg Shows the horn he bought
http://priuschat.com/forums/attachm...n-signals-upgrade-horn-signallight7_6-020.jpg Shows what it looks like after install

is a youtube video with the audio from the Hella in a RAV4. I could not find a cross reference to how the sound might change due to the mounting location on the Prius...

Hope I've spelled it out better for ya!

Thanks for the links and the tip on the Google custom search. The regular search button sometimes borders on useless.

We we take delivery of our 2010 Prius sometime end of next month, the first mod will be the replacement of the OEM horns.

Will be installing Fiamm El Grande electric horns. They are loud and guaranteed to turn heads. It will make your Prius sound like a Chevy Suburban at a very reasonable price! :D

Have been using these horns on our 08 Yaris 4-door HB and 09 Fit Sports and are very pleased with them.

Here's a link on where to order them: http://www.amazon.com/FIAMM-74100-El-Grande-Horns/dp/B000DLBIGG

What's the install like on those? Where would you mount them?

I upgraded my horn primarily for defensive purposes. Example - "a priori" had an accident in his '10 (was posted in main forum) in a parking lot. A van ran into him.

I don't live in a very congested area, but lots of seniors and dangerous parking lots. So my thumb is always close to the horn button when I'm in those situations. The Prius is very quiet in parking lots so horn noise could be an important margin of safety - simply to audibly alert someone; either on feet or wheels. Especially if they're angling for your car....

Understand your 20 times usage... but one of those in the future may prevent an accident. Just my feelings - a few bucks well spent IMO.

You live in Canada, so I wouldn't expect you use your horn much. I used to live in Arizona and I also hardly EVER used my horn, in fact my heart would start racing if I ever used it haha.

Now however, I have been in Boston for a few years and use it on a daily basis. Around here it's a driving tool, unlike in AZ when you only use it in crazy life/death situations.

I guess it really just depends on where you live.

Don't get me wrong, if you want to change the horn, it's your car, do what you want. But presenting it as a safety issue isn't accurate, imo. The stock horn is fine for alerting pedestrians and other vehicles.

    Where do you live?

To me it is a safety issue. The stock horn is a weak little beep. I want a deep roar. My city is full of old people (ladies!) talking and texting on their cellphones, completely oblivious to their surroundings. I sold my motorcycle because of how bad people drive here (southern Louisiana.) We don't have the no cell phone law yet, so people just have their phone up to their ear and don't pay *any* attention to how they are driving.

Therefore, I want a big nice person horn that will get peoples attention when they start to merge on top of me, back in front of me, or do something equally dangerous and irresponsible.

It took about 20 minutes to install the horns. You can access them through the top although the instructions show removing the front bumper cover which isn't necessary. Hope this helps.

I live in a city on the east coast and use the horn frequently. I have not experienced any issue with people not being able to hear the horn.

FWIW, a no cell phone law doesn't help. No one follows it, and even with the headsets people are still oblivious.

I have not heard how difficult it is to replace on a 2010. Has anyone done this yet? How difficult / involved of a task is it.

    Thanks
