Or, if you're willing to use Google Calendar, you can have it automatically synced whenever you make a change on either your mobile device or on the Calendar for free. Really, this is so clearly the best solution for calendars on the iPhone (and iPod) that I can't believe more people aren't using it and/or aren't aware of it.

    Instructions here.

My calendar hangs on my wall and has pictures of kittens. I don't have to boot up an electronic gadget to see what's on it. :D

That's clearly the best solution if you don't care about viewing your calendar from multiple places. I actually prefer to do this and I used to do this at home, but I double-booked dates one too many times. Of course, a distinct advantage to paper is that it hardly ever has server errors like Google had yesterday.

i'm not sure how i feel about this rumor... one one hand, the Apple TV is long over due for an upgrade, and it does handle the same media as the iPods. On the other, it's focus is more on video than audio, which is a disconnect between the stated theme and the device. this one should be interesting!

I also saw somewhere that syncing with yahoo or google are also (in addition to exchange and mobileme) now available options in snow leopard. Sorry, can't remember now where I saw it.

Yeah. Snow Leopard apparently has native support for the Microsoft Exchange protocols (which Google uses). Sorta entertaining since Windows Vista doesn't have that support natively.

Unfortunately, my company has decided to not support Exchange for the iPhone at this time. So selecting Microsoft Exchange (instructions, step 4) doesn't work.

    Thanks, though, for the suggestion.

    On second thought, maybe not.

So, this is a corporate calendar, I take it? And they don't have an Exchange server at all? Or do they single out the iPhone? I wouldn't have thought that denying a specific device access was possible. . .

That was my understanding as well. Is the iPhone a 'different' device under Exchange?

I used to be able to access Outlook via Web Access. They closed that.

I used to be able to sync with my Axim. I believe Axim users can still do that - I could three months ago. But if I add Outlook to my iPhone Mail profile I can not download/upload Outlook mail when syncing.

I'm pretty sure they do not allow wireless syncing at all.

For the record, though, I CAN sync my Outlook calendar and any sub-calendars I define in Outlook. I can also sync contacts and Notes. It's only the mail that I can not sync. The bulk of my whining was that syncing is a manual process and not automatic like it is with ActiveSync.

oh, it's certainly possible. Here where i work they went a different route - mobile access to the exchange server is turned off by default for everyone. So iPhone, blackberry, andriod, whatever can't connect. You have to request access and sign a half dozen forms giving them permission to do whatever they want with the phone (remotely wipe it, program it to go on a murderous rampage, whatever) before you can get access.

But there is no ability to enable access for BlackBerry and disable it for iPhone? The access is 'managed' by user account (enabled or disabled), right? Stated another way, once you have authorized anything to be done to your phone to get access to Exchange, you are not limited to which phone you can use to access Exchange, right?

Where i work, that is correct. However when making a request over the web (which is how the exchange service works) certain information is contained in that request, such as the OS or application that is making the request. It's pretty simple for ANY web service to setup a filter that will reject requests from certain browsers or OS's, or even forward certain browsers to different pages than other browsers. Try going to google on your mobile device, and you'll see you actually get a different webpage than you would if you went there from your computer. In the early days of the iPhone, people would actually support 3 sites - a main site for computer users, a mobile site for most mobile devices, and an iPhone specific site. And you would be automatically directed to the one that best fit your connection.

I view my calendar from the bedroom. It's on the bedroom wall. Anything I have to do today or tomorrow gets transferred to the dry-erase board in my office.

But I will admit I seldom have two items on the same day. :D

Why am I not surprised that Microsoft Vista does not support Microsoft Exchange? Ha! Lots of Microsoft stuff does not support other Microsoft stuff. When I ran Windows, it would often be crashed by Microsoft programs. But wait! Maybe the developers of Vista figured that Exchange was garbage because it comes from Mirosoft, and everything that comes from Microsoft is garbage, so they decided not to support it. ;)

I'm sure I could sink my calendars in the bathtub if I wanted to...

Where I work, it's much like eagle mentions, I used to be able to sync exchange with my treo but that access is now cut off, the only mobil sync is with blackberry. Gee, eagle, maybe you and I work at the same place???

Here's another thought for 9-9, the iphone is catching some flack for only being able to run 1 app at a time where the Palm Pre can run multiple. Plus there is the bad press over some of them (ipods as well) catching fire and exploding (only 15 so far), but could a major redesign be in order? Also a real keyboard would actually make the thing useable.

I keep wanting them to make a geriatric version of the iphone or ipod with icons and text I can actually see. Maybe that will be it.

I haven't heard of any actually catching fire or exploding... do you have a link? What i have heard of is a few screens cracking - but those have all been attributed to excessive pressure placed on the screen by the user, not (as originally thought) from pressure from an expanding battery. The investigation in the EU for this is looking to see if the design of the phone appropriate takes into consideration expected usage - in other words, to make sure Apple is allowing for the correct amount of pressure on the screen.
