Can someone please post a picture of the backup camera that comes from the factory (showing how it is mounted - can you also measure the camera size?)?

    Thank you!

    Hi:

Will try to take a picture using my cell phone - hopefully it will be clear enough for you. It comes on all Canadian Models except the base.

Will try and post it then along with measurement.

    Hi:

I have three pictures here that hopefully give you an idea of where the factory installed camera is placed and the size of it. Sorry about the quality of the pictures as they are from my cell phone.

My wife said it is roughly 1 inch wide by 1 1/2 inch deep.

    Hi rrolf,

The big problem with a post-purchase rear view camera install in the 3rd Gen Prius is how are you going to turn the radio (or is it HVAC ?) on and off if you replace that section of the dash with a screen? It really needs the uber-expensive GPS and remote controled radio.

Maybe somebody knows precisely, but in the lower level Gen III Prius they have a dashboard of buttons (and/or a radio hanging off the panel a buttons) where the screen needs to go. And that is not going to be a quick replacement.

Or are you talking about the Gen II Prius in the Gen III Forum ?

    Hi Donee:

Actually for my car the camera is in the Rear View Mirror as the Navigation is only available in the Technology Package in Canada (Unfortunately).

I am pretty sure I have seen aftermarket Rear View Mirrors with the ability to be used with a camera. However, I stand to be corrected. My brother-in-law has in his Dodge Caravan a aftermarket camera kit that mounts on his dash and is cabled through the van. So I can see Rrolf trying this mod by installing the camera portion in the same section as shown on mine and running a cable up to either a OEM Toyota Rear View with the Camera Screen built in or a aftermarket Rear View Mirror or dash mounted mirror.

I have seen DeanFL do a mod on this and showing details on how it was done in another thread. If I can find it I will post the link here.

    Take care.....

If I installed a backup cam I would do the rearview mirror route.

Hi Donee - there's a separate thread in Audio for that one - I'm replacing the whole head unit....

For the camera, I'm just trying to figure out what to buy, and where i'm going to mount it...

    Hi Radioprius1:

Agree with you 100% on doing an aftermarket one using the Rear View Mirror. It is the least expensive route to consider.

But, if the truth be know, I wish that ALL 2010 Toyota Prius's, whether US or CDN Models, came with a Touch Screen Radio where the Navigation System is. However, it would be only for the Radio and include a Backup Monitor with the option to 'Upgrade' to the Navigation System. I would have no issue forgoing a 6 Disc CD Changer for a 4 Disc.

I guess if Toyota gets enough feedback on this maybe it will be offered as an accessory for the 2010 and option for 2011, etc.

    Take care.....

So has anybody priced what the cost would be to go Canadian OEM?

    Hi A64pilot:

I will send of an email to my Dealer and see if I can get the price for parts (Rear View Mirror, Camera, etc.) and once he gets back to me I will post it here.

    Take care.....

These are all over EBay (search on "mirror camera") - seem to be in the $200-$400 range all in....

Doubt those are OEM. I like going OEM where possible, usually easier and a lot of the times the correct plugs are already there on the wiring harness. Sometimes this are plug and play when going OEM

With the navigation panel on a 2005 Prius I was hoping to purchase and install the camera and interface to see when backing up. I would think the screen would support it when in reverse.

There are several threads on this - I put one in - it wasn't that difficult... Tim (post above) points to a very reasonably priced camera.

There is a wireless camera with a separate screen available, but I can't find the site. I will try to find it. It wasn't that expensive. The down side is another device on your dashboard.

Does anyone have a diagram which shows the backup cam wiring for a 2010. There must be some sort of junction box somewhere in the back. I can't imagine that if someone replaced the hatch door they would have to route a cable all the way to the front display. I'm interested in locating that junction box. Thanks.
