from Mac Rumors: Apple Mac Rumors and News You Care About, commenting on engadget.com story:

Engadget posts a gallery of images showing third-party cases claimed to be for the next-generation iPod touch and iPod nano. The cases, being exhibited by accessory manufacturer Hama at the IFA electronics convention in Berlin, contain holes to accommodate digital cameras expected to be included in the next-generation devices. The iPod nano case also appears to accommodate a wider screen rumored to be offered in the forthcoming model.

The new cases are by no means the first to appear, and a number of manufacturers have developed cases of similar design, but the hands-on views and packaging images shown in this latest gallery may be of interest to readers.

New iPods are widely expected to be introduced at next Wednesday's Apple media event in San Francisco.

Apple records on Apple iPods. Brilliant. I think that's it. There'll be options for an iJohn, an iPaul, an iGeorge... :)

Have you seen the Neil Young video where he's got his headphones plugged in to an apple? It's a Granny Smith, I think.

The whole Beatles on iTunes thing has been a circulating rumor for years now. It'll be nice if it happens, but i'm not holding my breath :)

Well the Mac Pro actually starts at $1699, by the time you are done customizing it, it adds up. As far as a gaming PC with killer specs
    Alienware M17x Laptop Product Details

or I can give you nearly identical specs as the pro here
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9379442&st=vaio&type=product&id=1218095152438
but wait the Vaio only costs $1199 and has an 18 inch screen + it has a Blu-Ray drive with and HDMI output, 400GB Hard drive, and the same amount of RAM. So not only is it a better machine, but the macbook pro costs 50 % more.

So to debunk this, lets do straight spec-spec comparison, shall we?

    Apple: $1899.00
    # 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    # 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
    # 500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
    # SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
    # MacBook Pro 15-inch Glossy Widescreen Display
    # NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory

    Alienware: $1924
    # 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    # 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
    # 500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
    # Slot-Load Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)
    # 17-inch Widescreen Display
    # Single NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 260M, 1GB (granted, this is a better video card

    Sony VAIO: $1199.99
    # 2.1GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (This doesn't match up at all with the above two laptops)
    # 4GB PC2-6400 DDR2 (slower than the DDR3 ram the above two laptops have)
    # 400GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm (the above MacBook Pro will be $50 cheaper for a 500 GB 5400 RPM drive)
    # Double-layer DVD±RW/Blu-ray/CD-RW
    # 18-inch Widescreen Display
    # NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT with 512MB (slight upgrade from the MacPro)

So, you give me a "high end gaming PC" that costs more than the MacBook Pro... and a POS that doesn't compare in several significant aspects - processor and RAM. The VAIO won't run nearly as well as either of the other two, but you threw it in there because it was cheap.

Since you still want to debate me by trying to make specs look equal go ahead and make them equal, your Mac Pro is now a 17 inch display oops looks like like you are now well up over $2500.
I didn't throw in the VAIO because it was cheap, if I wanted to throw in a cheap computer I would have thrown in a truly subpar machine with a Celeron in it. I showed that as a comparison to show that a comparable notebook is significantly less, to say that the VAIO is a POS just shows how ignorant you are because everyone of those specs are damn well close. Yes it has a tad slower processor but its still a core 2 duo, with 4 GB of ram you would be hard pressed to notice a difference between DDR2 and 3 unless you are fully taxing your system and you know it. And where the specs may lack in some areas they are better in others making those 2 PC's practically even.
By the way I never said Macs were a POS or any apple product for that matter. I would love to have another Mac just as I would love to have a Benz or a Ferrari, but even with my apple store discount they are just too expensive. Maybe its because I'm a frugal loser, but I am definitely not a blind sheep following MS, I am just not going to follow a company so blindly that I buy everything Steve Jobs tells me I want.

hmmmm.... September 9th! My birthday! This year it will be 09-09-09. Promising to be a lucky day :). Beatles remastered! ....As for Apple, I think we'll see updated iPods, iPod Touches with cameras, video enhancements, etc. Then in January we'll be seeing some kind of tablets. I'm looking forward to that. Something in the 6"-8" range would suit me fine!

I wonder if it could be some combination. A new iPod, maybe one with a Beatles theme, and the announcement of the Beatles being officially available on iTunes now.

The only way that the Beatles will be on iTunes is if you buy the the CDs and rip them onto your copy of iTunes. The investors haven't gone to all of the trouble of re-mastering their catalog and producing however many millions of CDs with the re-mastered catalog to put the catalog up on iTunes.

Separately and continuing the debate about an iPod tablet edition (iTablet anyone?), I have been reading more about why an 8 or 10 inch diagonal measurement tablet would be a compelling offering. This link kind of says it all: Why Apple's iTouch Tablet Will Become Its Flagship Product -- Seeking Alpha
    Some quotations to tease y'all:
A tablet from Apple is on its way. Whether it is an iPod on steroids or an evolution of the MacBook, expect to see a tablet offering from Apple. The next question is whether the tablet will be released in time for the 2009 holiday season (September or October, 2009), or after (February, 2010)?

EDIT: One more bit of gasoline for the fire... http://developer.apple.com/mac/libr...andlingTabletEvents/HandlingTabletEvents.html
A tablet from Apple is on the way. The question is when, not whether....

Why wouldn't they? We're talking about different markets to a large degree. Profits on MP3 sales are much greater than CD sales. You have folks paying $1/song and no expense for packaging or a CD stamping at all by the record company.

And many people will want the CDs anyway, so you're not losing those sales. Expand the market, make more money. Isn't that what they want?

If that were actually the circumstance. If your business model is CD sales, iTunes is an option for extending the market after CD sales have leveled off. And, if the Beatles' catalog was going to be released on iTunes, don't you think that Apple would be using a theme other than one that is so closely linked to the Rolling Stones?

2 more days until we find out...

I disagree with your assumptions, not necessarily with the conclusion. I just think it's 2 very different markets. If I'm a huge Beatles fan I'm buying the CDs for archival reasons. If I'm a casual fan I'm not buying the CDs anyway. It works for pretty much every other group on the planet, why would the Beatles be any different?

If that were the circumstance, why is the Beatles catalog not released on iTunes?

An iPad, maybe? Or is that too close to iPod?
Maybe it is the Stones catalogue being released...As you say, we'll find out soon enough.

iTouch Tablet was another interesting name that was floated.

It could be the Stones catalog.... Especially with all of the effort that has gone into the re-release of the Beatles catalog....

The speculation around the tablet is getting heated up at this point. I think the O/S updates to support tablet functions that occurred at the end of August really threw some gasoline on the speculative fires. Why publish such an update if you aren't going to be releasing a device that requires the update????

I don't know...perhaps they were waiting for the remasters, maybe they wanted higher royalties than apple would give them, lots of potential reasons.

The Touch is pretty much not available until the 9th.
