I like that - as long as I can still enter actual gallons at fillup. I so hope it's not a marketing "app". There are already iPhone apps which allow you to track gas usage, driving techniques & traffic patterns (using the iphone's g-sensors), and even environmental conditions. Even better would be something that lets the user look at the OBDII data like scangauge and devtoaster (using an OBDII-to-802.11g interface).

Even if it just combined a lot of already available functions from other apps it would be cool to have them all in one place.

    - Where did I park function from G-Park
G-Park iPhone App Lets the Forgetful Bookmark Their Car - iPhone - Gizmodo

    - Smart key replacement (lock/unlock and start) from ZipCar (sort of):
    Zipcar iPhone App Makes Car-Sharing A Breeze | Autopia | Wired.com

    - Mileage tracking from Road Trip (BT syncing of mpg data would be awesome!)
(iPhone) Road Trip MPG, Maintenance, and Mileage Tracking. appscene.org

    - Driving style feedback from GreenMeter:
iPhone App Gives Drivers Efficiency Feedback - Green Inc. Blog - NYTimes.com

    - wireless ipod function control and stereo audio streaming over BT would be cool

    - diagnostic data over BT would be awesome

    - Menu driven interface for all user customizable settings, IE set reverse beep, smart key behavior etc with a button press rather than the current pat your head, rub your tummy and click your heals together method.

So I checked out the articles people have responded with about the App and found some interesting information in them.

    1. The articles mention that Toyota "has launched" this App and that it's for Sales information vs. anything for owners. This is true. It's actually what they're talking about that showed me iPhone App button. That's what you see on the screenshot from my iPhone. It's something called a "Web-App", basically a Mobile version of their sales info site only accessible through a browser window but you can add it to the home screen of the iPhone.

    2. The button you see in the original picture still lists August as the launch time and most importantly states that the App will be available in the Apple "App Store". This can only possibly mean that a Real Application for the iPhone is completely separate from these articles and they are in fact two different things.

So to sum up, there is quite a difference between a "Web-App" and an iPhone "App" and we still have yet to see any info regarding the actual App still coming in August. I have a hard time believing it will be for sales info seeing as they already have that on their mobile site and that most "Apps" are designed for offline use once they're downloaded directly to the phone.

I hope that clears things up as these articles are not related to the button announcing the Prius iPhone App. I really hope somebody finds something tho. I'm dying to find out what it will be. I guess we'll see soon. Thanks. -Matt

Does the Gen III Prius have problems importing contacts from the iPhone?
I don't have my Prius yet, but when at the dealer, I tried syncing my iPhone up to the nav stereo, but it just sat there saying "adding contacts" or whatever it said exactly...

Can anyone confirm whether or not the Gen III nav stereo will import a contacts list from an iPhone?

I had no problems importing contacts, last night. I was amazed how easy it was.

I paired my iphone to the system in My AT package and it asked if I wanted to update contacts.. I said yes and within 2 seconds all of my phone numbers went over.

More teases from our Prius officials...

"we're still fine-tuning the app so we can't share details yet, but we'll try to alert you before it goes live. It's coming soon!"

Still nothing on what it will actually do. But I'm twisting arms as best I know how.

I am not sure what the app will do, but I have my own top 3 features I hope are included:

    1) Includes an "Impatient" button which will, when pushed, trigger a traffic light change for those times you are running late for work because of that late night out.

    2) Includes a "Make my day" button which directly communicates to the main Prius commuter, instructing it to send out a flashing message running across the small lower hatch back window repeatedly reading: "Back Away Sucker” when it detects a vehicle is following too close. After displaying this message 3 times without results, it will automatically change the message display to a waving bird which will have an uncanny resemblance to a one finger wave.

    3) Includes a “Sympathetic” button which allows you to quickly change the odometer display and other
important trip information temporarily to provide evidence which will support the lame excuse you are giving your significant other (or mother) on why you are late getting home from work again.

I think it is going to be: a.) completely amazing and rich with features (allowing you to unlock the doors with your phone, track mpg data, have an service reminder built in...) or b.) be completely useless and be nothing more than something that existing apps already do better. Just my $.02. I hope we find out soon.

Our cars don't have any wireless networking capability, so unless it has a hard wired cable to the OBDII port it has to be option B - completely useless. :(

Should I buy an iPhone already to use this 'app'?

I have done some googling on it and found nothing that looks like a real useful app. I found a lot of commercial news items telling the world that there is an iPhone web app that shows pictures of a prius.

I think this thread can be closed now. Now Iphone app from Toyota. :(

Do not buy an iPhone just for the Prius app. The Prius app does absolutely nothing. It is nothing but an advertisement for the Prius.
