Thanks, this helps a lot. This sounds like a pretty typical inspection to me, the kind of thing that's usually included free with most oil changes. I can't believe this is going to cost any significant amount of money - draining the coolant might cost a little extra, but if it's anything ridiculous, Toyota dealers HAVE to know they're going to lose a bunch of business. So it sounds like the dealers are trying to scare new buyers (Prius first-timers like me) into buying pre-paid maintenance for things they don't know about ahead of time. They should think twice - this almost cost them a sale.

I had my first oil change done at a dealer, $80+ and they wouldn't honor a coupon because it is a special oil. I noticed today that they have a sticker on with the next oil change in 3000 miles! These are the same clowns that were amazed the car didn't have belts.

Amateurs. Don't they know they are supposed to wait until they've made the sale to scare you? It's supposed to be "This is the finest car money can buy. Yes, it'll give you many wonderful, worry-free years. Sign right here. All signed? Great. Now look, this piece of crap is probably going to fall apart the second you drive off the lot. Probably the whole engine will fall out, and the computer inside will likely explode. The whole thing's rubbish really. You should definitely get this extended warranty and pre-pay for maintenance."

I thought I saw a thread discussing 0w-20w synthetic oil being used in these cars and that Toyota is recommending 10k mi intervals? Anyone else confirm this or am I having a braincramp of some sort:rolleyes:

It's in the Sticky's at the top of this segment. Nothing is confirmed yet, if ever.
