I acquired one of Yoshi's Canbus monitors. It is a keeper. However, since I still go to car shows, its appearance is -- unfinished. Cables sticking outside, circuit board edges visible.

So, I am going to have a housing made. Here are some mockups I did:

The second one has about a 1'' hood over the front.

Are there any MS-1 owner's who would be interested in one of these. It will bring the price way down (I have no idea what it will be to stamp/cut the single sheet of metal (2 if hood added) this will take. The place I have in mind does very professional work, so finish will be excellent. I intend to paint mine slate grey to match the ScanGuage.

    Any takers?

    Hi Doc,

What I did was put a small 1/4 inch half round notch in the left vent. This was enough to route the cables (a USB cable and 12V cable in my setup) down behind the dash. I had the EEE-PC in the same plase as you have your indicators. And the stickers in your windshield are about the same height as the monitor.

BTW, keep that thing put away in west suburban Chicagoland. The Police do nothing about people typing on blackberry's, but there is hell to pay if they see something that is not a GPS display on your dash.

Routing the cables is not the issue. It is the kludgy appearance of the unit itself.

I plan to run the cables down the side, where my ScanGuage is currently routed. The ScanGuage will go on my right, with cable routed through a hole I will make there.

You might also price the design with a plastic fabrication shop. It is often cheaper and easier to work. The right plastic alloy will do great in that hot environment (the wrong one will really
    WILT!).

BTW, every time I read the title of this thread I read Cannabis, not Canbus - don't know where my head is at, especially considering I don't even DO that stuff! :D Must be a flashback to all the specials and books about Woodstock a few weeks ago.

I've always loved ken's canbus. heck, I'd consider making up a few at work, as G jobs, if I knew there was a canbus in it for me ;)

Here's the final product, painted, labelled, and installed:

    And here's the whole dashboard:

Lots of pretty blinky lights at night.

    Looks great!

But unlike the Star Trek sets these lights actually do something. :)

You should see the bridge upgrade on the Star Trek Phase 2 set. All the screens, both the large ones at the top and the ones at eye level have been replaced with LCD screens: numbers scroll, planets rotate, graph lines move, etc.

I just love those LCARS stickers! Awesome! I can see that you have no tribble reading those screens! Nice! However, in the future you may wish to reset the alignment of the deflector dish using your MS-1. You may warp yourself into oblivion if you don't! I love Star Trek!
