Greed. (false greed) Egos. (real and inflated)

Simply put they (Apple Corps not Apple computer) want more then the going rate for their music. Add to this the fight between Apple computer and Apple Corps and they just can not seem to negotiate it. Every day the Beatles are not available digitally Apple Corps looses money. Apple Corps thinks 99 cents (and now maybe even the $1.29) is not enough per song and thinks that having the Beatles on a given music store will bring in new customers. That may be true.... but compared to the money they have already lost its not.

In the end now that the price in Itunes is higher they may be coming out on 9/9 but I doubt it.

One thing for sure... the 9/9 event is about music and Ipods. No touchpad computer will be there...... Almost certainly there will be the normal increase in storage capacity, probably a doubling across the Ipod touch line, maybe a camera too.

I just hope Apple does not kill the hard drive based Ipod classic.

The Sony is not comparable and the reliability of Vaio's is pretty bad. My former job was laptop repair and we saw as many Vaios' as Dells yet Dell sells many times the volume of Sony. The most common problem with Sony's was an expensive fix.... just one day they do not power up. Usually its heat related motherboard death not something simple.

I think your analysis is spot on. And that is why I don't see the Beatles catalog being available on iTunes. There is just too much history.... Until you see someone making decisions who doesn't have the burden of the history to contend with, I don't expect to see the Beatles catalog on iTunes.

And for all of the reasons I have posted about, I agree that 9/9 will be about iPods. The point of debate seems to be whether there will be an iPod Tablet release on Tuesday. Only 1 more day to go until we know.

Check apple.com. There have been a bunch of new rumors, but nothing official. Apple has managed to get everything churned up real nice. There was even a statement from Yoko Ono about the Beatles catalog being on iTunes that was quickly removed and rebutted, so as I said, everything got churned up real nice....

    Details from the announcement (condensed):
iTunes 9 - now with a better genius, library sharing and syncing across multiple computers, better app management for your iPhone/iPod touch. New iTunes store interface.
LP's are back - now you can buy LP albums through the store. Includes music, lyrics, artwork, etc... everything you could find in an old LP that disappeared with CD's
Additional content for movies - essentially the movie extra's and interactive content you get on DVD's. nice.

iPod Touch - 8GB is dropping to $199. 32GB for $299, 64GB for $399. enabling the use of OpenGL for graphics... this should be a nice improvement all around.

iPod classic - increased size to 160 GB, no change in price

New headphones for the iPod Shuffle, with built in controllers. The Shuffle's text-to-voice option is improved. New colors, $59 for 2GB and $79 for 4GB.

And the infamous "One more thing..."

Video camera build into the back of every iPod Nano. thinner than the competition (being 4GB SSD video camera's), more capacity (8GB), and supposedly great picture (I want independant confirmation and to see some videos before i'm really convinced).

Added an FM Radio to the Nano. About time!

And adding a pedometerto the Nano. The only thing this device is missing is the kitchen sink!

And a larger screen (2.2 inches), and new bright colors.

as previously asserted, no tablet today. The Beatles... unfortunately not. but don't worry - i'm sure you can look forward to the rumor of them coming to iTunes next year around this time!

I have been on the apple.com website, and interestingly, I didn't see any mention of a camera for the Touch.... There were some rumors about production problems with the camera-equipped iPods; it would seem the rumors had some truth to them?

Yeah; no cameras in the Touch (yet). Apparently cameras in the Nanos was an easier engineering feat.

Yes, there is a cut-out (that is filled in) where the camera would expect to be located. But no camera....

That cutout has always been there, i believe... in terms of production efficiencies, it's probably cheaper for them to make 1 case for both the iPhone and the iPod Touch, and just fill in that gap than it is to make two entirely separate production lines for the different cases.

The only thing exciting was the nano. The Touch was less then I expected. Of course since even the touch got a speed bump everything is a better value.

I would have never guessed that Apple would dominate the hand held gaming market but its looking that way. The touch is profitable for Apple and now creates a large amount of revenue later with Itunes/Apps sales.

Agreed... the nano was exciting, the rest was their normal product line refresh. Not terribly unexpected, if you ask me - The first week of Sept. every year they hold a media event to refresh the iPod product line, an rarely do they introduce anything really exciting or new. The big exciting announcements usually come in January or in June - basically, they come during the keynote address of one of Apple's big conferences. The rest of the year is almost always just half-day "media events" to bump product revisions.

I'm disappointed by the announcement. I wanted them to introduce an iPod with a button that, when pressed, would make a woman fall in love with me. :(

Be careful what you wish for - what you probably want is the RIGHT woman to fall in love with you, not just ANY woman.

I'm not an Apple fan and could care less what they anounced, but even to me this was a non-event.
